Thanks,
This bad:
Image

Had filler - very little, rust (all treated) and some stopper. The 'blue' you can see is actually grey primer which was applied using several aerosols. Quite rough all over to be honest. It had 2 coats at the stage shown in the picture. It needs flatting and another coat but looks fairly presentable as it is. It actually looks better in the picture than it really is but easy enough to get it looking like that for real now.

No problem, get back to me if you're still stuck. Hope you have a great time painting. And don't worry if it doesn't come out as well as you'd hoped. Just leave it a few weeks, flat it back and try again.

H
Just seen you discussing buying paint from Avenue Coatings so thought I would remind all of the following discount available till the end of October.
Taken from a item I posted back in March of this year! Still slowly, slowly, slowly working on my van by the way! I will get there!

Woodyyellow wrote:Rustoleum paint 5% discount available.

Now that Spring is here, I need to finish my van! Two thin coats of rustoleum were applied late last summer so should be well cured by now and ready for the final top coat.

I've been in contact with Mark Wagstaff at  Avenue Coatings, http://www.tools-paint.com/rust-oleum-2263-c.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and ordered my paint from them. Mark has very kindly offered a 5% discount to members of the forum, use the discount code CLUB8090VW at the checkout. This discount lasts until the end of October so if you are thinking of painting during the spring here is a possible source for you. I used this company last year and was very pleased with their prompt delivery.

Did you ever set this download up, I'd be interested in buying the DVD this way if you did?

Also just read through most of this thread, fair play for starting this off, and some great work carried out by all in the last few years! :ok

I've been thinking about the seam sealer slow-drying issue with Rustoleum.
Has anyone used Tec7 sealant with Rustoleum? Very similar properties to Tigerseal but its apparently solvent free so in theory shouldn't effect the drying of Rustoleum...Might try it on my wheel rims...

http://tec7.ie/product/tec7-sealant/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

E D I T: test panel in progress of:

1 - CR4 pu sealer (solvent based, same as tigerseal) and
2 -Tec7 MS polymer (no solvent)
I smeared a layer of both on each end of a bit of metal and will let it cure for 24 hrs, then spray with rustoleum and see what happens!

Ok, so now the samples of sealant have been curing for about 19 hours or so. Both seem very similar in strength at this stage judging by prodding them with a fingernail. I painted on some unthinned white rustoleum this evening and will report back tomorrow...

Ok, so next morning the rustoleum on bare metal is touch dry, but is still very sticky on both types of seam sealer. Have left it sitting in the sunlight on a window sill for the day and will check back when I get home from work.

Righto, home now and its less than 24 hours after the rustoleum was painted on. It has dried to the touch now on top of the CR4 sealant, but on the Tec7 its still very sticky.
Very strange, its the opposite of what I thought would happen. Its drying faster on top of the sealer with solvent in it and slower on the sealer with no solvent.
Anyone care to explain that?!

Now 48 hrs since rustoleum applied. Still very sticky on the tec7.
Bone dry on the cr4.

E D I T: another week later and the rustoleum on the Tec7 is still sticky.

Conclusion: Tigerseal or CR4 is the way to go. Rustoleum won't dry quickly over Tec7 or brushable seam sealer. Not 100% sure what the problem was on my van when the rustoleum beaded off the CR4 sealant. Maybe the sealant acts as a dirt magnet and when the panel is being wiped all of the contamination ends up in the sealant. That's my best guess anyway.

So I think I will try this combi colour on my van (roller)..The VW colour code is LH5G Medium Blue ,can anyone tell me from the combi colour chart which paint will be as close to this as possible?.RAL 5015 looks close... to get this mixed from what I have read is pricey or is it?
I am guessing I will need 2.5ltrs of blue and 1ltr of white for the roof.
50/50 MIX for the thinners....500 for keying paint 1000 or 1500 for flatting back then polish with a compound...
I am ordering the DVD anyhow..

50:50 mix with thinners, are you sure about that?
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

I've bought the dvd and read this thread but I don't remember the details until I plan on doing the work. But I imagine that 50.50 will be far too thin, once you've thinned the paint too much, it's no good unless you add loads more paint to it to restore the ratio.......not a viable option!
