Rustoleum isn't 2-pack but you can add hardeners to it. However, I've not had issues with soft paint. Could it be the make of thinners used? I only paint in April/May as that allows it to go rock hard over the summer. Its a bit difficult to advise on a prob I've not come across once since this thread started. Can only suggest the thinners used or what you painted over unless anyone has any other ideas. You can sometimes get soft paint on seams as it can take an absolute age to dry on some types of sealer but not the main bodywork.

just a quick one for you covkid. have you tried applying rustoleum with a brush? I am hoping to get a friend to paint it over the winter, he is a proffessional sign writer but everything is done with brushes, no rollers or sprays, very old skool and very skilled. mainly paints classic lorries etc which are then shown at rallies, the last of a dying breed apparently.

My neighbour helped a little when I was starting off painting my van and he finished a section with a brush - the finish was great but there was no way I could replicate it using the same technique - it's obviously a mix of skill and experience (I had neither!).

The sun is out, hip hip hooray. That means that spring is on it's way - best start collecting all the rollers,brushes and paint that we'll need for the new paint job that is imminent!!!!

You obviously didn't watch KK very closely. It was wax on, wax off so that comes after painting - obviously

throwing my 2 pennies worth in!! great thread and the way to go for a good cheap diy paint job,in my paint experience for outside paint jobs may and june offer good weather and long days and another tip from the old celly days is leave the final coat to overwinter and flatten following spring,used to get really good gloss levels using that technique,should point out i started out working in a paintshop 30 years ago but find the price of the 2k paint way out of my price range and very bad for your health,also cannot stress enough that prepping the panels is really what will give you your finish,any mistakes in the topcoat can be flatted and polished out,i will also post piccies of the painting of the van and resut of who will win the best panel finish between wife and me!!

Would agree on May/June although I tend to start around April (at least on the prep) and that gives you a couple of months before the baking sun hinders the paint finish. Leave it later than that and you'll be fighting with bugs. Start as soon as the dew is gone and before any wee beasties decide to come and have a look.

yep you can always rely on a death wish fly!!do we still get a discount on the phone at rustoleum,just trying to trying to keep the costs down as i have to do a veltrim trim out on the interior to make it nice for the summer,great post and keep the info coming
