Yup - stick to May/June for outside rollering. Few if any insects and little dust in the air. There are a few areas since painting that I'll be revisiting (round petrol filler mostly) but most areas look clean as whistle and it shrugged off all the wintry weather no prob.
Thanks for compliment. I do update the Wiki page now and then to clarify odds and ends but it should all be there. I do recommend a quick practice on something like an old washing machine or panel as it gives you a 'feel' for how to work the paint. You can do that at any time of year really. Theres also a video at the bottom of the wiki page but I'll make a new one this year showing the process in more detail.
I am going to do this, I seem to be spending a load of money of stone chip spray and filler etc every year anyway. this summer it is goodbye to enamel flowers and hello to two tone, like my parents 1980 devon back in the errr 80's.
just as soon as I have fixed the last couple of bits.
when my parents camper was resprayed, the guy sprayed the lower 8 inches with a rubbery "stone chip". is this adviseble and if used can the enamel be painted onto this?
I started on the door i am renovating. Didn't go too well think i used too much thinners. Its taking ages to go off. It was a bit more like man milk than runny custard. Does anyone know if it will actually go off or have i made a big booboo.

it will go off eventually. i got some runs in mine, that was about 3 months ago and they are just solidifying now. the cold weather doesnt help.
Its hard to know when you've got it right - until you do. Sounds obvious but its true.
Once you know the consistency, you get it right every time then. Should make a nice nice 'tacky' sound using the roller when the mix is right. This is why in the wiki, I recommend you test on an old car door or washing machine first.
Once you DO get it right, you'll find you can't stop -not even to scratch your noseand you'll cover a lot in a short space of time so make sure you've taped up anything you don't want to paint. You can do one whole side in 10-12 minutes.
You work fast and keep watching for any errors (runs/sags) as they're impossible to fix after 3-4 mins. Right mix and not too much paint in one go is the secret. Ignore the textured surface - it levels out after a few mins.
Still think its way too cold to paint at the mo. May/June is perfect. In fact ChickenKoop and I found that if its relatively warm outside, by the time you've worked your way round the bus, its ready for a second go. This time of year it can take hours and hours to dry.
