I got my first coat on today then just as I was finishing up the heavens opened I have been standing in the rain taking masking tape off but it has got wet and stuck to the rubbers...... Any top tips on getting the stuff off , it's the glue , apart from that it does not look too bad considering I am painting it in the curb with cars going past and the wind blowing crap everywhere

15% is about right but as you've no doubt discovered, its not an exact science. You just get a feel for it. 2.5ltrs will certainly do the body (just) but I ordered 2.5ltr x 2 to have enough for roof (which I still haven't decided on yet). Yes you can paint hightops with it. Rustoleum can be painted on metal, wood and fibreglass. Also great for aluminium garage doors. I think technically, just over 3ltrs is whats needed for a repaint although it really depends on what colour you're painting over.

Folkers - bet you're pleased Its not a £2k spray job but it CAN be if you work hard on the finishing Once you put all the fixings, grill etc back on, it'll really come together and at least you can drive it between stages.

Decided that when I paint it next, I'll use same blue for top half and a kind of Tardis blue for bottom half. - oh and WAY more chrome.....

Cheers, Yeah it does need a good 1/2 day spent finishing it with my mop and polisher. Don't know about you CovKid but I used Meguiars Ultimate Compound to finish the sliding door which came out amazing!!

Will get some pics up in a couple of weeks with everything back on the van, when it is in a polished state

For those just beginning to follow my instructions on this, really take care under roof gutter and below front grill - its easy to rush or neglect them and they need to be as good as the rest. As always, it does help if you have a mate working with you to change rollers (and pre-soak them for you), make tea and spot bits you've missed or have left with an unfinished ridge line. It can go off fast sometimes - plan your route

My Azure Blue (ral 5009 i think) came through today.
Before i start ive got a few questions

I cant find much info on the prep, on the wiki it seems to say 'prep it'. What sand paper do i use and how do i know how much to sand it?

Im going on holiday on monday, id hope to get some paint before but, if i sanded it, then left its for 10 days out in the rain would it all just rust up? Its got 2 layers of paint at the moment so probably wouldnt go down to bare metal.

I know you are meant to flat back between layers, but would doing two layers, then flatting back, then flatting back after each layer after that be okay?

Cheers for the help! Would recommend tools-paint (avenue) for rustoleum. Theyll mix you any RAL colour for cheap!

Don't rush it Harry. Prep it (treat rust, dings, seams and flat back the original paint to give you smooth keyed surface), paint it and then flat back between each coat. I used 600 grit wet and dry, but that was because I can get my hands on it readily

Hi all,

Got all the rustoleum today! RAL5012 for body, White RAL9010 for roof and Black for bumpers. Also got all the wet and dry sandpaper (400, 600 and 1200), 8 roller heads, 3 roller handles, 3 roller trays, white spirit, big soft brush (i will try also the dry brushing technique), and some news papers to cover the floor

I got also two tubes (310ml) of Sikaflex 221 for the seals (is that enough?). In the datasheet says it takes around 4 days to dry for a thickness of 3mm. I read some people had problems with it not curing ever! All this waiting before start rolling will be really a test for my patience

I contacted the guys of Vactan, and they can not send the product abroad. Does anybody know about other products that can be used instead? Have you heard about Brunox? Other one?

Yeah, now I found a cheap distributor here in Norway (aeo.no, for those norwegians around in the forum) More expensive than in UK, but still not that bad From ebay seems they send Vactan abroad. How much is needed to do all the seams and a couple of stone chips?? 1 liter?

I got my Vactan sent over just fine from ebay UK so try there.

Smallest bottle will do all that and more. It has a shelf life of 12 months so don't buy a litre. Trust me, it goes a LONG way Andres!!!

Did my 3rd coat today in the sweltering heat. Must've been about 40 degrees under the tarpaulin and I must've lost about a stone in sweat!

I knocked off the top of the orange peel with 1200 grit paper this time in an attempt to not go back through to primer as much. It worked, except for a couple of places. Coverage of the 3rd coat was good, again, accept for a couple of places.

I am thinking now that the 4th coat I might put straight over the 3rd coat and only rub back any spots I notice where there's any air bubbles or hard lines, that way I am minimising going back to primer in any thin areas again and then when I do the final flat back before a t-cut and polish after the 4th coat, I have a bit more paint to play with.

Any thoughts?

Very nice job! Did you rollered the rims with rustoleum also? I plan to paint mines too, but not sure how easy the rollering will be in those crevices. Any tips and tricks welcome!!
