Hi all!
Today I received a RAL table from a paint supplier here in Norway and for my surprise... it came with VW code equivalencies!
I would love to share them, but i dont know how to upload the pictures, when I click on upload attachment it says "Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached". Please tell me how and I do it.
BUt, the code I have in my car doesn't match with any of the table

, but I guess is easier to find a way to convert between VW codes. It come for example L535, L61/M, L11/E... this kind of nomenclature. Hopefully somebody can help to solve the rest of the puzzle??
Cheers!

I Agree I have spent many hours looking for this info.....unfortunately my colour isn't listed, but I recently found out my camper has been resprayed some time in the past and the new colour doesn't match the colour code anyway!!!
This info should go into the Wiki or at least a thread of its own
Well done pitufinavikinga you are a star

Doubt that Boatbuilder. Unfortunately many of the VW colours are RAL combinations, hence the need in some cases to have to have it mixed. Still, its a good list and may make someones day.
As a youngster I used to work as a printer in Leamington and I was the only one allowed to mix up the Rolls Royce letterhead colour as I got it spot on every time just by eye. It had just a dash of black in it and used proportions of two other standard printing inks. I suspect this may be the case with VW colours and in some cases a colour may require four or five standard RAL colours to get a perfect match so they would never be on the list. RAL colours are wide ranging but they are still standard colours at the end of the day.

@ CovKid (after all this time on here I still do not know your name)
The above quote is from the 4th post down on page one of this thread and the link is no longer correct.
As you say, this one BIG thread and I was wondering if the page with the list of materials still exists and if so, could you E D I T the post quoted to give us a good link ?
btw, though I am SURE it has been linked to before on here, but here is a link to the wiki article that gives lots of info =

Mine is going in in around October to a professional ( T25 experienced) body shop to get some seam rust and the other "usual suspects" attended to and I am looking at this method of painting to save on them doing a full re-spray.

Hi guys, quick Q:
My van was original red but someone sprayed it black about 6 years ago. Its abit crap now and you can see bits of red at the edges.
With the prepainting sand down, should i sand down to the red all over, or can i just rough up the black and just go down sanding the red on the bad parts.. On the actual panels the black is fine.. I guess i should have got a picture up.
Also, will painting over black mean i need a few more coats? Im doing it a RAL 5021 blue (Has anybody else gone for this?). Havnt seen anyone else whos had to paint over black yet.

Hi, I have painted marlin blue on my van which when I got it was matt black.
I would just flat down the whole van (mine took days to do to a standard I was happy with flatted down) I am on my fourth coat of blue now, and black is completely covered. I have done very thin coats though and built it up slowly.
