First time on this thread, found it to be an absolute goldmine of info. I have just finished rollering my van and I am now reaching the cut down and final polish stage. I was just wondering what peoples thoughts are on which compound to use for rustoleum paint. I normally use G3 on two pack but I am not sure what to use on rustoleum paint.

Hi all , I got totally engulfed with this thread last night and Im now convinced I should do the rustoleum and roller job on my camper( that I will be picking up tomorrow) it is a 1980 viking in red , my question is where do I find the paint code and can I get a close match with Rustoleum thanks in advance.

Folkers thanks for the reply, I was also looking at meguirs, nice to no someone has had success with it.

Cruz, I have now completed my fifth coat, rubbed down each coat with 1200 grit followed my fine scotchbright, I have had some problems with a colour match so I am waiting for a replacement tin to do a couple of fine top coats.
If anyone is in the market for a paint that is halfway between RAL 2008 and 2009 then I might be your man. Very pleased with what you can do with this paint and the van is begining to look pretty good. Unfortunately not what can be said about my driveway.

You obviously missed my advice on putting down plenty of cardboard and not stepping in the roller tray

Was there any advice on not holding the roller tray in your hand whilst talking to your neighbour and not realising that you were gently changing the angle of the said tray and then standing in the aftermath.

Yes there was. I recommend keeping tray on the deck for exactly that reason.

For Wasp 229... i found this one... i was looking for the same Nevertheless in the rustoleum page the color looks a bit different , but it may be the computer screen. My original color is LH5G (Medium Blau) Until today I havent find a specific RAL equivalent...

I used 'Sky Blue' code is RAL 5015 on the combicolour web page

Why go with RAL 5015 when you can get Avenue Coatings to mix genuine LH5G?

Hi! I send an e mail to Avenue coatings to see if they can ship to norway and see if it doesnt become too expensive! Thanks for the advice! If not then I will stick to any of the RAL colours I can get around here.

In another related topic, have any body heard about Brunox as an alternative for Vactan? If so, is it any good and how different is from Vactan?

Should be getting the paint delivered today, so final fill and flat back with 600 grit tomorrow.

What have people been using to wipe panels down with? Is it ok to use white spirit? I am guessing it is as you add it to the paint to thin it.

I'm quite excited that I am finally going to get paint on the van! :d

Yeah I usually wash the van with washing up liquid then use a bit of White spirit to make sure panels are really clean.

I rollered 3 sides of the van over the weekend and found that the paint sin´t taking to the seems very well/at all. I didn´t have rusty seems so didn´t see the need to remove all the sealant and re-do so I just sanded them with some 240 grit but the paint isn´t taking at all, it just rolls right off whatever is in the seems.

Has somebody used silicone on the seems or is this a common problem I can work around by using a primer just along the seems?

there are no RAL matches you have to have it mixed fella or go for 'near enough'

I am desperate to try this for myself, I have read lots of this thread many times now and looked at the videos. I have just looked at another one on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qPJTTRWttQ&NR=1 I just need to get the colour mixed up for me. My other half is insisting the bus stays the same colour. So I need to find someone who will mix up some to LH3D (Marsala Red) and then I will be giving it a try.

If any body can point me in the direction of a paint supplier who would be able to supply my colour in Combicolour then please let me know.

never seen a hair dryer used...but not a bad idea, and i'm also going to flat mine down with wet and dry before mop & polish but I would think 1000 grit is a bit harsh!!
