Re: TDI mpg vs engine temp
Thread resurrection!!!
Made a note of my mileage and refills since i left my house for my hols, until today. So this includes Motorways, A roads, B roads, Mountain passes ect basically every type of road and weather condition you can think of. To add to that, two adults, 2 children with 4 bikes, roof rack, roof box, front luggage rack full. I would say i was maybe slighty over GVW
Anyway, heres the graph

I've averaged 29mpg, which i think is really good. Before i got my timing sorted i was peaking at 30 mpg, as you can see thats now going up to 36mpg bringing my average up to almost 30mpg.
For the weight of the van i'm really happy with that. Still think there is room for improvement, the lower figures came on the motorway when i had cruise control at +3200rpm. On the journey to Busfest i kept the rpm to 3100 or there abouts. I have yet to refill for that journey, still have over 1/4 tank left, but it's looking good for another 600km+ tank

Re: TDI mpg vs engine temp
Great. Thanks for putting that up Lloyd.
Providing mileometer is calibrated that's a good solid figure of 29 mpg. Max looks like 30.5 and min 27.5. Ignore the blue line.
As you all probably know I have never believed a lot of the crazy figures often bandied around...

Reversing light stays on all the time, not sure why?? and glow plug light flashes. Forums say this means a fault on the ecu, but the scan guage shows no faults.
Doesn't affect the performance and goes out when I press the brake pedal.
Did you figure the problem with the glow plug light? I get this with mine, after 5 minutes running the light flashes, press the brake pedal and it stops for a while.

Re: TDI mpg vs engine temp
Mine keeps popping up a brake pedal monitoring fault, light flashes a it and code is stored but goes the same...it's because the hydralic switch can't be properly synchronised with the mechanical pedal one..is ok if pedal is hit hard but tickle it and hydralic switch doesn't see the braking.
Also had a fault pop up the other day when I checked the memory for intake pressure, electrical circuit fault...odd one that as its inside the ecu on my 1Z...not come on again since!

Re: TDI mpg vs engine temp
So have you switched yours off the brake switch then? or am i reading that wrong? Mine is on the pedal, and is VERY sensitive! If i barely touch the pedal the cruise control switches offmax and caddy wrote:Mine keeps popping up a brake pedal monitoring fault, light flashes a it and code is stored but goes the same...it's because the hydralic switch can't be properly synchronised with the mechanical pedal one..is ok if pedal is hit hard but tickle it and hydralic switch doesn't see the braking.

Wouldn't you engineer it like that then Lloyd, I would..

I'm happy with it like that, works very well (not complaining at all, just comparing). Just that max's post said he has to give the pedal a big push for it to register, as i said though, maybe i was reading that wrong

Re: TDI mpg vs engine temp
No...! It's a bit different on your setup I think...but on my early 1Z I have a single wire to the ecu with the purpose of monitoring the brake lights...that's the one that needs a good prod to switch...it's per pose is purely to montitor the brake lights! I also have a 2 pin switch on the pedal (mechanical) and a 2 pin clutch switch as per original. The difference here is the golf it all came out of didn't have a hydralic brake light switch...but another mechanical one..so there is slight delay sometimes due to the different switches but CCS always shuts off with a dab on either pedal...in fact I tend to rest my foot on the clutch and then drive along wondering why the cruise isn't working!
Later this have a 4 pin brake switch...is that what you have ?

Re: TDI mpg vs engine temp
Oh and...it can be sorted...but it's not worth it! The thing in the way is that the t3 brake switchs go closed when pedal pressed and the tdi ones go open...a relay could be used...but I don't want a clicky relay...and it will do as it is as it doesn't actuall make any difference...it logs a fault..light flashes...restart and it never does it again.
