Hi there,
I have taken some photos whilst doing my starter bush/starter motor earths/gearbox oil change etc. I cannot upload them, but email me and i'll forward them! [HELP!?] Basically I used a 12mmx1.0mm tap [thread] and rotated it out by hand, pointing it rearward into the holw you locate by touch in the forward face of the engine flywheel housing [where the starter motor toother gear shaft comes out of! My 'motor was very slow and the earths corroded; it kept making a horrible noise too and then just staopped turning the engine so after a self propelled bump start to get home the wrong way down a motorway service station in only ramp.. in reverse.. I decided to research and then rectifiy the problem. My bronze bush was just pencil shavings! Don't be too concerned if tiny bits fall down into the engine as the metal is very soft and the oil filter will catch them if they don't just sit at the bottom end of the flywheel housing.
I soaked the bronze bush on motor oil for an hour or so and then popped it in using one of the starter motor bolts with a nut about an inch down from the end to make a prodder that you can push in by putting your hand into the engine bay with the lid removed; left hand.. and point it towards the rear bumper. I did the starter motor removal first of course by removing the boot lid and also accessing the motor and engine case etc by taking the rear offside wheel off on the drivewayI used a 3 ton jack and for safety a 3 ton axle stand. Don't use a cheapo 2 ton one they WILL collapse [Don't ask how I know!!!
Wish I could put the pictures on here for clarity as I've started photographing all the mainitenance I do for the Triumph bonnevill, Mazda Bongo and 80-90 Forums now to help other home mechanics using basic standard tools and the repsonse elsewhere has been great. PS Brickwerks parts and service are superb..
