Colour is an old VW one "Mausgrau" or Mouse grey. Full sales pitch here:

 Maybe we should feel a bit sorry for the US syncro buyer. Clearly they have far more money than common sense, and they're lacking the variety of original vehicles we have in Europe, so maybe they resort to bolting on expensive aftermarket tat to make what they do have a bit 'special'. I would add that Russel builds a far better 'expedition vehicle', for a much more reasonable price.

I love the whole thing - the colour, the arches ..... all of it

The wheels are Ronal's either 7x15 or 7x16. I have them on my Multivan and a spare set for the other yoke ...

Mine are an ET23 and I felt I needed longer studs as I only got 6 turns on a nut and I reckoned it wasn't enough. However even with the 'smallest' long studs I had to drill through and tap the nut as they were the chrome type. Maybe a bit over cautious but there you go

When a wheel is banded, is it just cut down the middle, and a band of metal welded in, thus making them more 'dished'?

It depends who does it. In the old days that was how it was done but nowadays you need to supply twice the rims so they can machine off the narrow side on one set. Then they slice up the wide side off the other rims giving two wide sections per wheel. There are a few places in the UK that do it well.
