Dont know about roadsigns, but a couple of nice chaps pointing AK47s at our rear window after we inadvertantly crossed the Croatian/Bosnian Border made us stop quickly a couple of years back.

The way to deal with roundabouts in France is to understand that the person who cares the least about their care has priority. If you drive a car that you care about, dont go to Paris!

First time Idrove in france, it was a hire car from Beauvais (God bless Michael O Leary) We were supposed to get a Fiesta, but there were none left. So, very apologetically, we were led to a brand new Alfa 156 2.2 Turbo. They were just new then. At the first roundabout I shoved the gearlever down into 3rd, and somehow my knuckles hit the Hazard flasher switch. Couldnt indicate to turn off, so went round twice while trying to find how to turn them off. EVERYONE stopped to see what I was going to do next. It was such a successfull strategy I was quite tempted to try it at every roundabout!

I've been to Frannce many times (all over) and haven't seen anything other than what we have here, i.e. once you are on the roundabout you have priority. The markings (white lines) are usually far better than ours and if you see a thick white line don't cross it if something is coming.

It is that easy.

Pete.
