BTW in the end I made my own MPH speedo face, which was more in keeping with the original black dials. Simply removed the speedo and scanned it, then using paint shop pro I created the speedo face using the scan as a template. Printed it on high gloss inkjet paper and heypresto all done. It does look quite original and the DVLA guy thought it was the actual speedo and would not have it that the odometer was in KMs. Checked the speedo readings with my satnav and it was always about 10% under (i.e. 30mph reading = ~27mph) which is exactly how the speedo is on KPH. If anyone wants a copy of the image then drop me a line.

If you're prepared to donate the image to the club it could go in the wiki for anyone else importing a van to use - thus making it another exceptionally helpful thing on 80-90 :D
