Alex and his mate own that abs blasting Syncro its still in use everyday ! as simon said was v hard to turn (would need power steering, didn't get into top gear, and they factored in half the normal wheel bearing life plus had cut away a LOT of bodywork but still a v cool looking machine

that van does look cool but is a prime example of taking things a bit too far and having problems as a consequence.

syncropaddy, my phone wouldnt load your pictures so i have only just seen them on the pc. what kind of lift is on there then?
and you mentioned a spring lift and body lift? does that mean one under and one on top of the springs?

Its a 20mm lift on standard springs with Trailmaster shocks on the rear and 16" shocks on the front. Its a standard van with no extra weight to speak of. The body lift stuff is available from HERE and there is a thread about it on IG16. I havent done a body lift myself but I think there is one or two on here that have. It doesn't look too difficult really but its down to the detail and you may have to drop the steering rack a bit.

Dan.. I'm sure that the spacers were 25mm .. And I have done nothing.. Zip... Nada!! And all seems perfectly happy!

are we talking spring spacers or wheel spacers? and if it is wheel spacers was that just to bring wheel offset into spec or to actually stick them out further for the look?

20mm spring spacers which give 30mm lift. The 30mm which give a 40mm would need hd cv's which would mean big expence!! I was advised this anyway?? And the wheel spacers are 25mm which bolt to the hub then the wheel fits as normal.. To the spacer!

Mr jed has a top little vid on lifting a syncro... It's a b1tch if you don't follow his wisdom to the letter!!

my understanding is that if you use wheel spacers, other than to correct wheels with the wrong offset, you can change the ackerman angle and scrub tyres in turns leading to uneven wear.
so were your spacers to correct the wrong wheels ( i cant remember what wheels you have on ) or for the aesthetic?

yeh i have 16 (foot) merc ml wheels that do have a big ofset.........ackerman angle ?????

ackerman angle
basically, when you go round corners your inside and outside wheels are following different sized circles so the inside one has to change angle more than the outside one. if they turn parallel to each other then one of them will scrub. its also the reason for a differential as one is traveling less distance than the other. ( why they scrub when the diff locks are on as they are trying to go the same distance)
i dont claim to understand it but i do know stuff goes wrong if you mess with it.
and BFG's worn on one side only is a pain in the wallet.

Fitting spring spacers is as easy as falling off a log !! Fitting wheel spacers to bring the ET to the correct dimensions wont affect the steering geometry too much as all you are doing is putting the tyre footprint in the right (ish) place in relation to the suspension. If you want to fit spacers to widen the track then you start to affect the geometry. Why do you want to widen the track?

i would go wider for the tonkeriness but only if the steering geometry could be adjusted accordingly.
thats kind of my question really. can you go wider with stock wheels and still adjust everything to work as it should?
i know that higher isnt a so much of a problem, its the wider bit i am interested in as well.
the wheels on the camper are 7 or 7.5j so already quite wide but the pickup has stock 16"rims and if i could make him stand with his feet just a bit further apart without affecting his performance/reliability etc, then i would.

is this tonka ish enough?
