Re: Anti Freeze Comma G40?
With all the cars I've owned over the years (VW and non VW) I've always topped up my coolant with antifrreeze of the same colour, regardless of make. If it's blue then I top up with blue, red with red etc. I've never carried out flush to any of them and have never had any cooling related problems. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I reckon you can look into things a little too much.

With respect the WBXer having it's headstuds sat in the coolant is a different beast than many other cars ... exposure to even a mild acid 24/7/365 is not good and can only end in tears and financial unpleasantries.

Have to agree with Ian. Its one of those areas where money spent on the right fluid is money saved - even if I was grumpy about parting with the cash. Stuck to G12+
Mind you, I still only pay £10 for my engine oil but even that meets VW Spec.

Re: Anti Freeze Comma G40?
I think we are coming back to 'Regularity' of flush and change and not necessarily the quality of the coolant. The same in a lot of respects applies to the engine oil as even the cheapest of available 15W40 far exceeds VW's original specifications.
I also think the lack of changes are down to ignorance more than anything else. The average owner not realising that not only do the rust inhibitors in the antifreeze break down over time but the coolant also turns slightly acidic as well. Also critically, as Ian points out, the wasserboxer design leaves the head bolts sitting in the coolant, which if left unprotected can badly corrode leading to untold problems in the future.
Covkid....where are you getting oil for a tenner..
Everytime I change mine it gets more difficult to find the right grade....thankfully Wilko's do a Mineral 15W40 API SJ at £11.53 VW have dropped 15W40 Blue Quantum.

LIDL - when they have it in. I generally buy three cans at a time.
