Just been looking at head gaskets, looks like you have to measure cylinder protrusion, as there is 3 different types!

Bracket was/is fine. the pump was seized solid, better pic of the impeller

I'm thinking, pump seized and getting very hot and maybe making the plastic brittle causing it to crack? Happens like that on boilers anyway

Please some one correct me if i'm wrong, but i think that the AUX coolant pump only circulates coolant once the engine is off (and a bit on start up to stop it from seizing).
So really it being seized shouldn't have any bearing on that failure.
That's most unusual mate, i thought you were talking about the main water pump on the engine last night.

Are you sure there's nothing else that could be rubbing against it that might've stressed the plastic?

The only thing I can think of is before the aaz the aux pump was held up with a ziptie, so damage could have occured then?
Since the aaz its been held by the proper bracket with nothing fouling it. Just been waiting to happen I reckon, ticking bomb........

Sure I`ve got a spare head around here somewhere you can have if you need one. There are 3 different size head gaskets, but if you look just behind the fuel pump there are small holes but 3mm. Most that I have seen are either 2 or 3 hole gaskets. Dont forget to change the bolts if changing the head. Let us know if you need anything to get you back on the road.

Thanks Dave, so can I tell what gasket I need before I remove the head? I had a thought the noise I could hear from around the head could have been the turbo fan, glimmer of hope maybe?
For piece of mind I will get a new aux pump, otherwise I'll be worrying all the time. Picking one up from gsf on Monday, not a cheap part!
