Re: Alternative instruments and switchgear
Ive been through all this in the Trans Am community and from my point of view it doesnt matter what other people 'accept' on your vehicle. If people dont like it, tough. It s not theirs. As long as youre not bodging it bringing a t25 up to date is amodification and enhancement in my opinion.
With regard to the pods the molding is the way to go, you wont find much that'll fit the T25 pod area. Im really looking forward to seeing your custom pod as im currently modding a T4 dash clock set to go into my T25. Should be good when its done
Good luck with yours

Re: Alternative instruments and switchgear
Certainly a challenge fella
Some ideas here: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewto ... sc&start=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The Delicia incline/altimeter clocks are well worth including in any mod I think:
Either way, keeping the original switches seems a good idea in case they ever needed replacing.

Re: Alternative instruments and switchgear
Same as the earlier Shogun jobs aren't they? Cheap too! Unlike the price of Audi Coupe GT pods...CovKid wrote: The Delicia incline/altimeter clocks are well worth including in any mod I think:

Re: Alternative instruments and switchgear
Pants! I missed my reminder for closing bids on a Coupe dash pod complete with clocks and all switches! Went for less than 50 yo-yos
Now they're all over £70...with heavy postage. Time to find a southern VAG breaker.

Re: Alternative instruments and switchgear
Anyone know how to mod a 4-cyl tacho to read correctly for a 5-cyl? I'm not really an electronics man but I can solder on a transistor if the parts are in front of me! I'm looking at the Audi 80 dash pods on ebay.de again...

Re: Alternative instruments and switchgear
I have one for mine and one spare which I am willing to sell. They're commonly used on german buses for Porsche VDO instruments but you could set them up for most things.
To mount them its simply a couple of angle brackets off the dash and some sensible fixings. Plenty of room around the brake reservoir.
£80 delivered.

Re: Alternative instruments and switchgear
I picked up one of these at the weekend, it's from an Audi 90 quattro saloon (5 cylinder) Got it complete with all switchgear as part of a job lot of used bits. Well chuffed, most of the stuff on ebay is seperate parts : instrument pack, surround, cover, switches...
130 mph speedo and 7k tacho should go nicely with the 20v
Just got to make it fit, along with the auxiliary instruments. Time to get chopping that old quattro loom for the switch plugs

Re: Alternative instruments and switchgear
Anyone figured out how to convert the speed signal from a cable drive to pulse driven?
Additionally anyone know where I can find some wiring diagrams online for the T25 dash connections?

Re: Alternative instruments and switchgear
The only way to convert the cable drive to a pulse is with a bora gearbox sensor. However the speedo will read approx 20mph slower due to the pulses per revolution of the sensor being so different to the revolutions of the cable.
I have the wiring diagrams you need for the dash electronics.
I've done this with a golf mk4 dash and it doesn't work unless you have the EEPROM of the clocks reprogrammed. Nightmare!
