how bad is the 1.6d??

I am going to refine a two tank vegi oil conversion i made to run the 1y engine.

Get a 5 speed if you can then plenty of options in the future ;)

I found that when my van was a 1.6 it was ok speed wise (slower than expected mind you) the main issue was the top end noise from only having 4 speeds

Nah i have a DK code 4 speed gearbox mated up to the 1.9 1y.Top end speed is smooth and gives good MPG.

Guys, do you have to have it converted to run on waste vegetable oil or should I just go out and empty the chip pan into the tank?

Just ensure that the oil has been heated to drive off any water in it, filter to 10 microns, put in tank, use. I drop down to around 25 - 30% in winter as the oil is too thick to use neat then. Don't use it if you run an Eberspacher or Webasto heater - they don't like it up them! (or run a separate tank for the heater as I do). Beware that the veg oil can harden to a crust in air which can block the breather in the filler pipe. Only use it if you have a Bosch pump.
