Front bashguard dimensions?

OK. I'm going to make sure that the front tube is curved (or at least has a series of small sets) to sit right up behind the bumper beam lip, hopefully to better protect it.
It will probably have to be fixed with this feature, but once I get measuring we'll see for definite.
What can you store in the drop-down one anyway (other than a wheel) as it all gets wet and muddy anyway?

I have one like Jeds on Syncaroo, and it holds a 14" wheel,
but the 15" wheel dont quite fit in, even though it does seem to fit in the space without the bashguard.
How about my plan, fit the wheel in, and measure or pattern make, for the bash plate to fit around the wheel and tyre?
If its a snug fit, with the wheel behind it, that should also give it a load more resistance to indentation..

My spare wheel plans currently involve this idea (still got to find some materials to make the bracket; maybe a dead hub, but rather heavy) plus a nice vinyl cover to hide the grot :

Lots of reasons but primarily it's all about easy access for those with bad backs, plus it will be a lot lighter and more convenient than a swingaway. Just my personal preferences...
This reminds me: the spare is badly bent, so time for £bay for a replacement Vito 15 x 5.5" ET60 unless someone's got one knocking about?
