sorry if you've already checked this and i'm talking nonsense but another thing could be your accelerator cable and routing... we spent months on our rebuild, got the timing just right, all set up from the carb linkage bar, she should've ran like a dream but when it drove it was still a shed. After a desperate rag around we actually snapped the throttle cable and we had one person in the boot manually accelerating to get her back to the workshop, this way however she was magically pulling up hills in 4th, this hadn't happened before. took the old cable out which was mangled and sretched and had been routed in som old fuel pipe, fitted new throttle cable inner and outer and she ran like a dream.
