Ayup mate...great job.
The only question I would like to ask is: ...is the hardness of the material used similar to the original?

Well it's difficult to compare pressure die-cast high zinc alloys (original) to machined wrought high-tensile alloys. I'll admit that I haven't had them Brinell or Rockwell tested but put it this way: I've just fitted a set to my own bus while doing a gearlever refurb.
They are made from 6082-T6 alloy so should be quite durable enough.
I swear by nitrile gloves too!

I took the photos once I'd got home, showered and had my dinner. I never wear the Married Marker when working as I value the meat on my fingerOldiebut goodie wrote:They don't look like machine shop hands.(wearing a ring also!) What barrier cream do you use?

Here they are, come and get 'em! VW part 251 711 173 C "Selector lever guide, 5-speed" (improved!)

I've run about 25 vehicle sets to kick off so supply is limited at the moment.
Special club price to get things moving, £16.50 each plus vat (£39.60 a pair inc.) post free
Yes they are a bit dear and I'd hope to price them a bit keener, but it's the best I can do. Blame the Chinese for buying up all the raw materials on the planet

Re: 5-speed lever fork repair kits now available!
Silverbullet THANK YOU! I've just discovered this thread and it looks like years of reversing away from traffic lights by mistake may soon be over! I've had everything possible done to my gear setup and still can't get 1st or 2nd with any reliability. So I'm looking forward to testing these fork ends out.
Would you recommend buying 2 selector guides at the same time, because it's almost certain they're not in good shape too? And which guides do I get for a syncro, cos the only ones I can see in this thread are for a 5 speed?
Thanks. We all owe you.

Can I reserve a pair please. I can't check the van just now as I'm away at work and the van is at home and I don't get back until mid Jan.
I may need the whole kit and caboodle for this but I can't confirm until inspected. Not had the van that long so still getting used to the dogleg!!!
Oh and Merry Xmas to you.
Cheers
Jon

So been looking at this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160662834305? ... 1423.l2649
I know this one states for petrol engines but they do one for the 1.6 JX as well.
Would this help firm up the changes as well?
Would like your opinions on this whether or not it's worth the money.
Cheers

Won't make an ounce of difference with gear changes. A few that have fitted them said they are too stiff and introduce noise to interior. Have no way to verify this but I imagine more 'slop' could be introduced by drilling two holes in them. Don't bother unless yours are knackered.
That said, if my front mount starts to go, I'll be going powerflex myself and modify if required.

Re: 5-speed lever fork repair kits now available!
Mmmm, thanks for the advice.
Mine is on the way out, difficulty selecting first and reverse but not sure which part(s) need sorting.
Trying to buy all I might need now to save time waiting on parts arriving when I get back home.
Always a problem when working away from home and living in the more remote parts of Spain.
I don't suppose it would do any harm having that as a back up for when/if the original? does fail.
Do brickwerks do a new part to replace that?

The Brickwerks one was under test and as I say, some have said that mount is too hard. Definately a cheaper replacement than the alternative of buying the whole mount which is well over £100 many places.
Can be the gearbox itself of course although wise to renew as much as you can. The aluminium blocks shown above certainly wont hinder access to 1st and reverse but any of the other bushes can.

Re: 5-speed lever fork repair kits now available!
Of course it may just be me not being used to the dog leg and trying to change first to second going up a steepish hill getting out of the drive..... Once on the straight and I take my time there is no real problem with the change so don't think it's the gearbox itself (bloody hope not) I just need to make the gear lever position more 'positive' if you know what I mean. At the moment SWMBO will not drive it because of the difficulty with reverse and first/second!!!!!
If we are going to use it as planned then she must be comfortable with the changes, I aint doing all the driving
