I was wondering that myself Mike. I was hoping things around the area to be welded could be masked up with some kind of fire-retardant material?

I'm on the look-out for a C-strut already (https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=85638 and a welder (https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=85644

Hopefully the welder will be able to advise.

I've got the post for a welder in "General chat". Do you think it would be better to move it to "Body"?

If you can't get the proper section I may have a permanent solution, that I can fabricate for you.
It won't be a graceful as the VW strut, more belt and braces than party dress but it will reinstate the strength you need there. and would be mostly hidden by the Autosleeper box work and bed once back in place

It might even be bolt-able on to the existing frame.

I've got a number to call today from a reply to my c-strut thread in the wanted section so I will see what they have on offer.

OK got my C-strut and I've got a welder lined up. The welder has got lots of welding blankets so although I need to strip out as much of the soft materials as possible and peel back the carpet on the roof, he reckons he can cover most of the stuff to avoid burning anything. A couple of hours work @ £40 per hour he reckons depending on how well I carry out the preparation. Sounds reasonable to me.

So we just need to find a convenient day in the next couple of weeks and we should be getting things back they way they should be.

If anyone has some more pictures of how the whole bunk-bed in the hightop hangs together, I'd appreciate it. The more the merrier

As soon as the strut is welded back in place I'm gonna sort the bunk out and try to get it back exactly as it was. So any close-ups will really help. I'd be interested to know which bits are fixed and how the moveable bit works. And if anyone has a tape measure to hand - cheeky I know -and could measure things up (thickness of the board used, dimensions of the boards etc) then that would be great.

Yes Kev, it was one of the 8090 members who responded to my wanted post. He's fairly local and breaks T25s. He said to keep his number as he has lots of parts. May prove useful in future.
