Quick question ..... what was the first car manufactured with ABS as standard throughout the range?

When Audi first fitted ABS to their cars they used to fit a switch so you could switch the ABS off !!! This was done as ABS in snowy conditions is not as good and didnt allow the build up of snow in front of the wheels which assisted in braking. Just read that off an old Audi brochure I have here !!

W126 Mercedes .........

Anti-lock braking systems were first developed for aircraft. An early system was Dunlop's Maxaret system, introduced in the 1950s and still in use on some aircraft models. This was a fully mechanical system. It saw limited automobile use in the 1960s in the Ferguson P99 racing car, the Jensen FF and the experimental all wheel drive Ford Zodiac, but saw no further use; the system proved expensive and, in automobile use, somewhat unreliable. The first car (worldwide) to have ABS fitted as standard (across the entire range) was the Ford Granada Mk 3 (of 1985).

The German firm Bosch had been developing anti-lock braking technology since the 1930s, but the first production cars using Bosch's electronic system became available in 1978. They first appeared in trucks and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. ABS Systems were later introduced on motorcycles.

Until your ECU shuts down .... as is happening with 170PD engines cuz of injector failure, then your engine shuts down and you got noting left!

The ABS system on the vw T3 is single circuit for the rear wheels unlike the T4 which has a dedicated 4 wheel system.
I'm sure that the ABS system is not designed to work with diff locks on. I have only come accross one syncro with ABS and it had no diff locks.

Does any one have a syncro with ABS and front diff lock?

I know of one in Germany. He used to live in Ireland but returned a few years ago. We met up in Mammutpark this time last year and his Syncro has twin lockers and ABS among other stuff!
