I'd be checking the timing too. I had the same symptoms when the timing went out (loose bottom pulley on an AAZ).

Jed popped over, had a look at the timing belt. It's on pretty tight, unlikely its slipped. Seems to have been a gradual loss over the last month, culminating in this. Hopefully will be the injectors
Thought loose bottom pulley was an aaz thing?
Had a squeal from the belt when starting sometimes, must be alternator belt though, which wouldn't' affect it, would it?

The cam belt wouldn't make a squeal its to notchy I would have thought. There is some knocking coming from around the head and in the area of the injector nearest towards the front of the van, also has fuel around that area. If its not the injectors I will set it at TDC and see if it all lines up with the fuel pump peg, cam insert and fly wheel mark. There isnt really any noticeable bubbles in the fuel line from the filter so doubt it would be that and Lloyd said it would rev but no power, if it was the filter it just wouldnt rev I recon. So knocking from the head, no power, smoking a little bit lumpy on start up and it continues, fuel around the injector.. Thats all I can contribute unfortunately due to my limited mechanical experiences, though the AA fella said it was most likely this and after all he is a time served mechanic unlike me.

Got some injectors coming, thanks to kind members of the forum. Another box ticked on things replaced on van. It's a bit like triggers broom

Yeah, cambelts dont squeal but alternator belts and power steering belts do, usually at lower revs. I would hope you have just a duff injector but it sounds like a little more than that.

All the oil leaks bar the oil return pipe (turbo end) where there before, although seemingly leaking less, and maybe I caused that by putting to much oil in on the hard shoulder.
So maybe/hopefully oil leak is a red herring

Lloyd when you say fuel around the injector do you mean leaking from the return pipe ? ( rubber pipe the go from injector to injector and then back to the fuel filter ) or from the injector pipes the metal ones that go from the pump to the injectors ? ( if it is leaking from them don't go putting your fingers near the leak) .
Its very rare for the injector itself to leak
can you get a picture up ?
All the pipe work for the turbo is in situ ?

Leak on dipstick tube, this seems to have got worse, or maybe i didn't notice it?

Injector, looks like it's coming from the braided pipes, but these are new. This is the injector that AA man says was knocking

With my limited knowledge, i dont think turbo is involved due to knocking noise at idle and idle being rough even when engine hot, pointing towards injector problem (AA man heard the knocking from that injector). Engine does rev up, symptoms were gradual loss of speed (down to 40mph) engine was smoking slightly during this, not like a smoke screen but you could see some smoke when looking in side mirror

A quick way to diagnose a faulty injector is to crack loose the pipe union nut on top of suspect injector whilst engine is at fast idle. If there is no change in engine speed the injector is faulty
As said ealier be very aware of saftey, the injection system operates between 1750 > 2000 psi so keep your hands well clear at all times

How can you tell? Is that pulley attached to the cambelt? So would = loose cambelt?

Any rough running, poor idle, and strange behaviour (could) = pulley bolt...
Ask Al (when he's back home, think his ETA from CF was about 10 pm)
