Yes - these are all things that I've sussed since we made the purchase. It has the electric mirrors tho' not central locking. I'm actually looking for truck mirrors (missed a pair on flea bay on sun night). I've seen the fridge handle in the top corner in a few pics altho' more commonly its in the middle like yours. It does have the full length shelf over the cooker. The window glass is all genuine by the etchings which I guess would support your Caravelle theory - how will the roof opening tell if its a fake? Let me know and I will take some pics and post them.

A westy opening was a factory roof panel and not just a hole cut in the roof. Also an intersting point about the central locking, look on the sliding door, see the black plasic thing with the gold squares?
Thats a central locking connector
It is activated by locking one door then they all will all lock, you never know it might just need fixing.
Alfieboy is selling new truck mirrors at the moment I think. I know he had quite afew.

You need to practice CV joints and especially clips abit more first

Thanks again - this really useful. Will have to work out the central locking thing as well - always something to do on a Syncro!

Is the white sticker still present, under the dash on the drivers side usuallly ? the info on that will tell what it was built as, failing that the build plate under the drivers seat will also give up a fair bit of info that can be translated
if it's a westy then it will be a type 253 as they were always built on Kombi shells, 255 would be a 'velle

Isn't that an early brown interior? Cream rather than brown lid on cooker/sink.

Thanks. It does seem that its a bit of a mish mash and not a genuine Westy. We're not too bothered because it seems sound and its definately a keeper. Long term might involve a second hand later interior but thats very long term! Priority is alternative engine and refurb of the trans when Aiden is back from his sabbatical.

No, I imported mine myself, weirdly, I am sure that Kevin Jones with the Blue Westy Syncro (Author of the Odyssey to the MIddle East Book) his is a D reg that ends in UGT as well (I think). Guess there weren't many D-reg's registered in Wimbledon DVLA...

this syncro was owned by jean louis bryon a long time ago then sold to the uk by a champion kite boarder (pete swan) its not a westy but a converted caravelle,it has no night heater,dirty-clean water tanks,gas systym,on board charger and all the little touches that westfalia do,pete did a lot of miles travelling abroad with a lot of gear so i know its been hard worked,we looked after it for 4 or 5 years and replaced nearly everything,hope this helps.
