I like the idea of gloss black but happy with new standard wheels.

New ones can be found here, http://www.syncro-services.com/index_modi_eng.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

One other thing about Mefro's paint them before you fit tyres the paint on them is rubbish it's barely on them I've noticed rust on any part that touches anything even around the rims  In comparison Vw wheels after 20 years have no sign of rust at all

Forgot to add. The 6x I'm selling are brand new. Never even seen a tyre. No scratches, etc.

Sorry for the advert but I need to sell these as they are taking up so much space....

Thanks, David

Thanks all, looking at Mefro's but will need to save first I think. In the meantime, some 14" a/t's will get put on my standard wheels.

they do 185/80 or 185/80.

Haven't ordered them yet, but looking in the forum for "recip" I'm sure a few people have used these and found them ok.

Recips are ok, from what I have heard, but 350 quid on a set of 5.. how long you going to run them fof? will be noisey on the road I reckon.. they are full on muds really, not really all terrains..

I'm completely new to syncro stuff but these seem to be the only 14" tyre I could find for mud etc. I dont really want to upsize to 15's as I need a set of Tyres asap(puncture) and I'm not sure if I have the time or expense to get 15's. Unless someone has a nice set
of 15's with Tyres for sale or exchange for my 16's?! Or could recommend some for sale?!

So why not just get some 16" tyres..

Sorry, think you are gonna have to explain what you already have (vehicle and tyre sizes what you plan on doing with the vehicle) and why you are going to 14's.. and mudders... IIRC 14" steel rims wont go over the brakes on a 16" sysncro.. (if it is a 16"?) overall diameter will be a lot smaller so gearing will be much lower.. smaller overall diameter means less ground clearance.. so if you need the "mud ability" 185's wouldnt be my first choice...
But.. I could be interested in the 16's.. (when i figure out just where I am going with it.. :rofl and rationalise my wheel collection.. )

I will have to update my garage with the new arrival.
Ok my van is 14" Syncro 2.1dj Panel van with Power steering. It has a camper interior and I intend on using it daily with camping trips when I'm off.
I need a tyre that is going to allow me to drive onto a muddy field, a beach, green lanes and deal with snow (on the rare occasion it comes or a holiday to eastern Europe!)

I have a set of 16" Merc wheels with 225/75/16 tyres which is an 11.04% increase in rim diameter on the original 185/85/14 set up. This causes the wheels to catch on the arches and the gearing isn't ideal. Overall, I feel it really affects the drive of the vehicle. I swapped the wheels back to original 14" size and found the drive much much better, i didn't have to work the van so hard and my mpg has jumped up to, which is a bonus.

So this has caused me to review my wheel and tyre set up. If it wasn't going to become a daily driver, it wouldn't bother me too much as it looks so much better with the 16"s on it. My standard 14" are rusty and I feel it lets the look of the van down.

So after a bit of research this morning, I have come up with a few choices. First of all, I calculated the difference in diameter for each tyre choice compared to the original 185/85/14 set up. I think I am going to stick to 16" wheels, but I need to choose my tyre carefully.

225/75/16 11.04% increase (current bfgoodrich dueller M/T)

215/65/16 2.39% increase ( My likely choice)

205/65/16 0.45% increase (no MT or AT tyre found)

195/75/16 4.33% increase

215/65/16 2.39% increase

So, now to find a good set of 205/65/16 which will be ok for day to day use but cope with the wild camping spots.

Also..... This sounds a bit daft, but does tyre size take into account the depth of the tyre tread. I.e a 205/65 road tyre is the same as a 205/65 AT tyre with tonnes of tread? If not, the difference in rim diameter could be equivalent to a different tyre size?!?!

Maybe I will post this in tyre section, just think the AT MT knowledge is likely to be found amongst the syncro folk.

Cheers

What width are the merc rims? that will narrow tyre choice if quite wide.
185's would feel very sprightly after 16's..

Std 185(80)r14 is 650mm diameter.. 205r14 is about 685mm.. IIRC

How much offorad have you done and with the syncro? they can go quite a way on quite ordinary tyres.. you'd get fed up very quickly on most MT's all the time..

PM on its way...

Ordinary 195R14 tyres will be fine for what you want .... Those Recips will be "pooh" off road. I dont have any off road tyres and I get where everyone else can go ....

It’s reassuring to know that you have standard tyres and cope fine, but i’m not sure if the recips would be rubbish off road and I think they would be good in snow.

I just have a memory stuck in my head from an off roading event in a jimny. Everyone who had fat nobbly tyres was fine, anyone with semi- off road tyres just sat there, in the mud.

The jimnys have a low range gear box but no diff locks, well not standard.

But waffle boards and semi off road tyres might be the answer?!?! I shall review the numerous debates on syncro tyre choice and make a decision. I’m not a serious off roader at all, just want to recreate the blimming pictures that caused me to buy a syncro for camping.

The Recips perform admirably offroad from what I have seen. Ash from Syncrospares was running them in his van, if you'd like an informed opinion perhaps give him a call.

As fit getting everywhere everyone else does.... Not true.
I've driven with all types of tyre on my van and all terrains go further than road tyres, mud terrains go further than all terrains when the going is sticky. Fact.
