Not the linkage I'm afraid. I just couldn't get it going no matter how much I played with it so went back to the selector at the box and removed the linkage again and reselected the gears. I think the first time I must have selected 3rd but I only drove it a couple of feet as the linkage was dragging on the ground and I didn't want to damage it, I should have given it a more thorough test I suppose. Anyway linkage back off and this time definitely had 1st selected clutch up but no drive, nor in 2nd. Reverse 3rd and 4th OK. So the box needs to come out. Its by the side of a busy-ish side road but it could be done, certainly flat enough. Anyway done what I could its a shame it wasn't an easy fix for him, only took so long cos I'm a novice, on the phone with lots of questions to Aidan and Covkid certainly helped.

Bum. Ok, well you've been a massive help as it rules that out. Phase 2 then I guess. Really appreciate what you did Bob.

Thank you all for your kind input during my van woes, especially; kathy, Aidan and of course Covkid for standing my corner while i was offline. But extra special thanks must go to Hacksaw Bob, whose efforts and kindness were above and beyond the call of duty,....many beers due. Most humbling to receive your help and great to meet albeit under less than fun circumstances.
I'll try and keep you posted with how things progress.

We are working away to find a solution for you. Nothing worse than a newbie who gets into major trouble so early. In 25 years I've lost count of the times I've gone to the aid of other owners, many of whom I didn't know from Adam but who became life-long friends. There are no rules here other than doing the same (in whatever capacity you can) to help another. Its pretty much what 80/90 is all about and many hands should make this rotten job extremely light work. Can't have a camper marooned like this.

Resurrected. After the box was refitted, Corkyboy was still plagued with difficult access to 1st & 2nd. Been some months with it sat outside his house and going nowhere. Received garbled text from Corkyboy this week to say he'd finally driven up to see Aidan (left at 5am apparently to make it less of an issue having to change gear). Aidan correctly identified that the nylon ends to gear lever fork were shot. These have since been fitted by his local mechanic and he says its like driving a new vehicle.
I'm sure he'll be along soon to fill us in but good to hear he is now finally on the road and enjoying things!!

We had similar problems with ours when we first got her, although we didn't quite realise. All we knew was that she couldn't drive and had no power. Lots of different diagnoses (including a scary one suggesting we needed a new engine), in the end it was Manchester Air-Cooled (in Salford) who sorted it. Fortunately ours was simply a linkage problem, like the OP's she wasn't going into 1st or 2nd and obviously wasn't too keen starting off in third. She's now driving like a dream, albeit a 26 year old one
I'd definitely recommend Manchester Air-Cooled, they've sorted out a few bits and bobs for us and haven't taken the mickey on prices.

Unfortunately Manchester Aircooled were little help on this one as box needed work and they don't touch T25 ones beyond basic adjustment but yes aware of them. I think Corkyboy has found a local mechanic to support him in Ashton which is all to the good.

well, as Covkid mentioned, i have finally got my van back on the road. my local mechanic fitted the the nylon ends provided by Aidan, to the gear lever fork. Not only is 1st and 2nd back, but the whole gearing system operates much smoother, its a pleasure to drive once again, i'd forgotton what a great little van it is, it deserved getting sorted.
Once again i need to thank fellow forum members for their masssive contribution and support through the months;
KathyShack, Hacksaw Bob, Jonno, Aidan & especially CovKid, who put up with my bleatings week in week out. You are all stars.

Glad to hear you're back on the road. Who's your local mechanic Corkyboy? I'm not a million miles from you so it would be useful to have another number in the book.

they specialise in classic american cars, but turn their hands to anything. They had an

Good, honest, family run old school garage.
