Vinyl bought delivered and (after a night of solvent abuse) fitted to the main dash. It looks pretty good. Bit of a fiddle down the side (the section the door closes onto.

See link below for pics.

That looks good, very original and nicely done.

Why did you choose vinyl over painting it? I've seen a bus on here with a white painted dash, a link is on 'T25 metal dash' I think. I see a trend starting.

I wanted the slightly softer feel of vinyl over painted metal. Also I have previously built a vinyl covered dash for a kit car not too long ago.

The biggest benefit of vinyl for me was the fact that it covered over the many miscellaneous holes drilled in the dash by previous owners. I counted 3 dummy alarm led's alone all non-operative.

Ta for the comment. All thats left is seeing how tough it will be refitting this into the van.

Good thinking. I bet the bus feels loads fresher when it's put back in. Let us know how it goes, with pics please.

Hi All,

I finished my vinyl dash recover this weekend. It too a while! I've done mine with scrim foam first, then vinyl, so it has a really nice padded feel now. I'll put up in progress pics on my van thread (which badly needs updating!) in due course, but here it is reinstalled in all it's glory:

Very pleased for my first every go at vinyl work.

Don't worry, orange door cards are on their way out, so it won't be colour overload in future! You can see that I also went for 3 12V sockets :-)

Cheers,
Stu

It looks great. I opted for foam in the top recessed section only. However, foam would certainly have helped smooth over some of the lumps and bumps I encountered along the way.

I have to confess it was pictures of your dash which inspired me. I had the dash out for a heater fan refit so decided there was no time like the present.

How tight was it to put back in place?

Thanks

Actually it wasn't too bad getting it back in - slotted in ok and the screws along the screen went back fine. Most fiddly bit was getting the dash pod/clocks back in, but that went fine too. Only bit I'm trying to work out now is getting the heater switch back in - it's very tight.

E D I T - just checked out yours - looking good

Cheers,
Stu

Looking good too StuM

My vinyl has also arrived for around the windows etc, I'm due to start cutting it out tomorrow. It will be a few weeks before I can stick it in the van, I will post some pics when I do.
