CB advise

anyone used this little fella. thinking it could be ok in convoy when off roading.as i dont fancy having a big twig getting cought in the trees.

In all the years on a CB and even with it high on a truck ... that has never happened

Orbiters are spring loaded as is the aerial itself ..you could bend it in half

dont waste your money.
you may as well not have an atenna as have that silly thing, if they cant see you they wont hear you with that.

the orbitors are as unbreakable as they come, i only know of a handfull who have broken them in the last 15 years, and used to sell them by the box full.

ok thanks guys, its just that i`ve got a k40 atm and ofcourse that aint as flexable, just thought of adding the little fellar on the other side to use off road. may be better to get rid of k40 and just buy an orbitor.

no substitute for metal in the air. only way you can be effective with tiny twigs is to go higher in frequency. but you need to pass exams for that

Like Tim I'm about to get shopping. I got a Midland 98 from axeman, so I was going to get a mid-sized mag and an Orbiter, but do I need/want the 1.5 metre jobbie or will the smaller 0.9m one do?
Should I forget the mag and just drill the roof (headlining is slashed to ribbons anyway) but where to position it on a 'velle? Smack in the middle?
As it's for laning but also use in hilly terrain, will I regret not going for more steel in the sky? I guess if it's going to catch in the trees it won't make much difference anyway...so many questions.

i have the mini stinger i think it is called, always worked well for me, mounted like you said above through the roof on a bolted mount,

"best" position is in the middle of the roof from a transmission point of view, the closer to the edge of the vehicle the less it radiates in that direction. Not always best practical posisiton though, mate had an old ford consul with 5ft firestick mounted in centre of roof, when he slammed on brakes the twig whipped forward and creased the roof!
