i buy and sell lots of sets of wheels...
ive fitted so many sets

if your looking for 17" the ideal is
7.0/7.5 x 17
et 30.
these would fit direct to the hubs no spacers needed. (a big help were posible)

8x 17 is posible but 7.5 sits nicer.

an 8x17 et 30 would suit the rear end of a t3 well.

im happy to help if posible..

Hello,thanks for the offer!

Although a garage told me that the Ronal R42 are the ones that fit, from my investiagtions they don't seem right. I think that the R41 Trend is a better fit and I also like the look better! think these'll suit?
Image

Anyway, their German site http://www.ronal.de/en/HauptseiteFelgen ... /Showroom/ lists all the specs and to my mind looks suitable:
7.0x16, ET35, PCD 5 x 112.0, and bore of 76.0. They can be van rated (is 800kg equivalent to van rated?)

I think if these specs are right they should fit without any spacers. Do you think I'm right?

Cheers
Jane

According to the Ronal Website configurator the R41 is not van rated, the R42 is though with tyre size 225/45R17 94 (which are 3% smaller than standard.)

Hi
I'm a bit confused by the configurator. When you enter the VW T3 the only wheels it suggests are the R41 with these specs -
7.0x17 ET 25.0 5 x 112.0 66.5

I thought that the offset ET25 was too small?

Whereas if you enter a VW T4, (which I know is not the same), it has many options, including the R41 with the specs:
7.0x16 ET35.0 5 x 112.0 76.0
I thought that the T4 would also need van rated wheels? And the R41 are listed as having a van rated option on many sites such as this

Cheers
Jane

You have to click on the wheel type R41 which gives you another window in which is the R41, at the bottom of this window is a link
zum car-konfigurator - click on this.

Now select VW, then Bus T3 (note there is no T25) and it will give you the recommended rim which is a R42 in krystalsilber.

Yes I realise that, that's what I looked at. However those specs recommend the wheel with an offset of ET25 which is why I'm confused.

Yes it is confusing.
I am not sure if I'd fit those with that ET.

Like I said on the 1st page.

Hi Steve
are you saying that the details on the wiki are wrong? as that's what i'm going by.
https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/Wh ... Adapter.2C

It says 30 t0 39 is ideal and I think is saying that even ET25 isn't recomended. Certainly, we have ET23 and it looks as if it's sticking out too much at the front.

In a way yes because,as far as I can see, those ET's were mentioned simply because VW 5.5"X14" steels are ET39 and VW 6"X14" alloys are ET30??

To be fair I always try and keep as near to ET30 as possible on the front simply because the wheels "sit" better in the arches and bewteen 5 and 10mm less on the rear.
ET39 isn't really possible when fitting aftermarket alloys because, depending on what width wheels are being used, they will make contact with the front upper wishbone.

Are your alloys fitted with spacers because when I saw it advertised on eBay they did look like a lower ET than 23?

ET23 does tend to make the alloys sit flush with the arch rather than tucked in slightly.

Oettinger and Projektzwo wouldn't have fitted ET23 alloys to a T25 if there were any issues.

Below is a photo of my old SA Caravelle fitted with 8"X17" ET38 front and 9"X17 ET30 rear alloys.
The fronts were fitted with 10mm spacers to bring the ET down to 28 so there was no contact with the upper wishbone and the rears had 5mm spacers to bring them down to ET25.

Interesting post Steve, perhaps the wiki information should include your thoughts here. as I can see the logicality of it.

Thanks Steve. Here's a pic of our van:
Image

I don't actually know about the spacers - the guy we bought it off said he'd taken off the original wheels and fitted these BBS ones that he'd taken off another vehicle and didn't explain any more than that. I was under the impression that he wouldn't have fitted spacers though as he wasn't spending any money on the van. The garage we took it too straight away said the offset wasn't right as the front wheels were sticking out too much.

I've spoken to the Ronal distributor and they said they can supply the R41 in 7.5" X 16" with an ET35. Would that be alright on both front and back wheels or is that offset then slightly large given the width of the wheel? The wiki says this size wheel shoudl be ET28 - ET30.

They said that the reason Ronal only approve the R42 is that's the one that is tested and comes with a TUV certificate to confirm it's specifically suitable for the T25. However, the R41 has been van rated for other similar heavy weight vehicles. So basically the company are saying that they are happy to provide them but can't technically guarantee them for our van. http://www.raceandroad.com/van-alloy-wheels.html

I suppose I could just go with the R42 which is properly approved but I don't like it as much as we wanted black!
