Just phoning around for quotes. Green Flag say they won't insure for European Cover as van over 10 years old.

Brittania and I just had an interesting if frustrating conversation regarding repatriation of the van. I tried to ascertain who and how they decide what the van is worth and if it is worth bringing back to UK in the worse case scenario. This is decided at the time of breakdown. Now I would rather have it agreed before I travel as to the worth of my van than to have Joe Bloggs deciding on the continent!!! Unfortunately this is not the way it is done.

I didn't accept the breakdown cover from HIC at time of insuring as thought I could continue with what I had......I am now kicking myself as they won't give me breakdown cover as past 14 days of insurance renewal. Realise what a bargain £75 via ETA was last year now!!!!!!

Check the small print on vehicle repatriation clauses, most of these insurers use the same network with the same clause .... we were recovered by a Flux agent from near Brussels, others have had major issues with ADAC and their reply to my request for clarity is shown in the Wiki.

Thought i'd chip in, may be of some use. Found some euro cover thru Moneysupermarket I think it was. The Green insurance Company, cost £99.95 for the year inc euro repair/recovery and key cover. They'll only recover you if the recovery cost is less than the market value of the van, makes sense I guess but hopefully won't have to test it! I think thats how a lot of them work, the other limiting factor is the age of the van obviously. There was another company on there as well for £75 but didn't look as good.
