Make sure there are no air leaks, with particular attention to the balance pipe elbows on either side just at the bottom of the carbs.

Turn the bugger over and then take the air filter boxk of and then operate the throttle by hand you should hear petrol squiting down the carbs. If you dont then its a fuel issue, blocked fuel filter?

Could be electrical then. Check for a spark on all cylinders. Just take out the plugs one at a time and hold it next to a cleaned part of the block with plyers (you get a shock if you dont), and get somone to turn it over.

If one or two sparks aint firing, clean the rotor arm and HT leads with some emery. Should do the trick :ok

SORTED, i took the left carb off and the fuel bowl was almost try, i tookthe needle valve out from below the float and got a massive lunp of crud from it, i i have given it a good clean with carb cleaner and now shes running and reving fine, the right hand acc link is sticking open slightly so i will strip that one tomorrow and do the same, the fuel filter under the van looks fine but i will replace that just to be sure, anyone know where you can get a fuel pump for it , its a electric one under the car (cylinder type) i would like to keep one as a spare, its running quit ritch slight blac smoke and with the sticking right link fast too, how are the mixture and idle adjusted on these, its a pic 32-34 pdsit 2 carb, thanks to all of you for your fantastic help just thought that i would update you the prob soved bit to help anyone else in the future with the same probs
cheers

Electric fuel pump on a 2.0?

They are normally engine driven (although people do blank off the engine driven one and fit electric ones.)

Any 12v electric fuel pump will do the job.

The fuel pump is on the front right lower corner of the engine block as viewed from the rear.

Looking backwards on the RH side, just in front of the rear wheel you should be able to see it.

Big clue is that the fuel line runs to it.... ;-)

I have a lhd 81 Air cooled, and the petrol pump is below the starter motor where the gearbox meets the engine, so you need to get underneath to find it.

the biggest benefit of running an electric pump is that it primes the carbs after you park up with a stinking hot engine. (you park up and due to rising heat the fuel evaporates from the carbs) this saves you having to churn the engine to fill the carbs back up.

gasket kits can be bought from gsf carparts

the idle is adjusted by the very large flatblade brass screw that you can see facing upwards on the left hand carb as you look from the back. it's partially hidden under a pipe from memory. anticlockwise increases idle speed and clockwise slows it down i believe. don't set the idle too slow as these engines rely on the fan spinning to supply cooling air and a really slow idle makes them get quite hot when idling in traffic jams on hot days so they should idle a bit faster than a modern car for instance.
good luck with it.
