Any news on this as i've got exactly the same problem :( . Just got back from the new forest (175 mile run) let the engine run sat on the drive for a while and the red light starts flashing and the header tanks full, did the same on the way down too.
Any ideas anyone ?

Sounds like either a sender or wiring fault.

didnt overflow out the top yet, but seems to put about an 1L into the top up tank each time it happens.
funny thing is the temp was fine all the way there 1/2 way on the gauge or less. but as soon as i slow down in traffic it starts to do it. engines a 1.9DG.

You need to get a dalek header tank cap (from Brickwerks or VW DO NOT get the GSF caps they are bad) and bleed your system properly ... it's in the Wiki.

I received a PM a while ago from a nice new member saying that (after 6 years of having a wbxer) I didn't know how to do this ... so I'll leave it to you to read it.

thanks ian gonna try and bleed it again this week, i've already tried 2 caps 1 gsf 1 brickwerks.its wierd it only does it at a standstill or when in very slow traffic. one thing i forgot to say was sometimes when yoy stop and turn off the engine you can hear the heater glug gluging as if air bubbles where going through it ?
which is the best way to bleed? the wiki here or brickwerks method ?

You have an airlock in the heater, follow Simon's instructions or those on here and you should be able to sort it. Depends what caused the loss of fluid in the first place I guess.
