I'm in Devon. Most vans that seem to become available that are not on ebay (ie non auction) seem to be well outside the SW. I think its going to be a case of being patient. Any recommendations on sites to try out? I've tried the usuals like Autotrader, DUbDUb, Just Kampers, preloved and here.

I agree...take your time.
My OH must have looked at every van for sale in the country online!!!! We went to see several which gave us the chance to compare interiors/engine power/condition etc.
Certainly was a steep learning curve. Some people consider 'excellent condition' to be very different to our own view!!!
We had got to the point where we were seriously considering going over to Germany to view some there when we found Boris. Right interior/engine/price.
Yes there have been some teething problems like the gearbox going on our first trip out! However, no other majpor problems....(yet)!!!
