Hi,
I put a half height board across the van with a hinged drop down section in the middle. Only half height so that the roof light/vent is still of use. I covered the board with the same material as the roof.
Access is with one of those small collapsible stools and a 'grabber thingy'.
We use folding storage crates (approx £12 from Argos for ten). Space for 4/5/or 6 depending on what else we want to put up there.
I'll send you a photo if you wish.

Funny you should say that, i was at Syncronutz last weekend and they had a factory roof that did the same thing. Never seen anything like it before but it makes perfect sense for a 2 berth van. It will be really warm in the winter because you have the hight but less space to heat. The bonus being all the messy stuff is out the way and can be accessed through the back of the roof. It has got to be a German one.

Yeah that does sound good. I am wondering how to seal the access hatch against weather if you cut a door reveal in the hightop
We put stuff in soft bags and drag them out with a cut down boathook, use a net to stop stuff flying out while driving.
