Thanks Jed. I was thinking that was the case (especially since seeing the pictures of your Westy on the Brickyard). Right hand side it is for me then ... when funds permit.

Cheers,
Ben

I've got a Thule towball mount bike rack and a wheel carrier now but haven't tried them together. I will whack it on this morning and see if all three slots are available and take some pictures.

When i bought my syncro there was a bike rack fitted and it cleared the wheel carrier. It was the Pauchlin (spelling) type and only held 2 adult bikes and 2 children's bikes. I sold it !!!!

A friend of mine has bought a Joker with a Paulchen rack on the back; she is taking it off and putting a Fiamma 3 bike carrier on the back instead; the Paulchen will very likely be for sale if anyone needs one.

Just checked on line and they don't do the one I have any more. They do a replacement with with a different upright to accommodate 4x4s with a wheel carrier but you loose one of the bike carriers. They also do an extension though to give you one back.

The 3 bike version.

This is the 4x4 adapter.

This is the extra bike adapter.

Maxxraxx also do a tow ball mount version which looks good. I was going to buy this one but they didn't have a fitting agent in Scotland at the time and wouldn't let me fit it myself (not letting me fit was was swan neck tow ball specific). If I was looking again I would get this rack.

I built this trailer top and fitted 4 bike carriers on top. Works really well. Should've applied a few more coats of varnish. I've refurbed it with about five coats varnish since. Looks great now.

Sorry no picture with the bikes on.

Hi,

I have the towball mounted Thule ride on 9403 on my 16" and clears the wheel comfortably if saddle end of first bike is at spare wheel. This is a self assembly kit and comes with lighting. Simple to mount. Got it from Halfwits a few years ago on sale for 129e.

Cheers for all the advice. Something else to put on the want list!

Looks like a competition to see who can have the longest syncro  How long would one be with 4 bikes on the back?

I have one of petes spare carriers and sold my fiamma rack and fitted a maxx rack that is a tow bar fitted rack and is the one for 4 wheel drive vehicles. Works great with the syncro as the upright holder is cranked to allow for the spare. No problem with non cross bar bikes as I use a paddy hopkirk artificial crossbar available from halfrauds. Used it for 2 years now and no probs. Also you can lower the whole rack to open the boot lid too

Does having the spare wheel mounted on the front interfere with airflow to the radiator and cause over-heating problems?

Also, I like the look of the combined spare wheel carrier and high lift jack holder spotted at VanFest Syncro display last month. I guess that this probably belongs to a forum member (?). I'll post photos if I can work out how to. OK...here they are:
