Look at this field, behind this Motley crew... Slight incline left to right where we stand, but more severe behind the camp at edge of field.
ScoobyDrew, the tall guy with the Billabong hat, Martin, big guy with the camo top, and then towards top right corner... 3 positions driving up the field from the left to the right. Its incline increases steadily.. and curves up to the far right edge a fair bit over last 10 yards or so...

Good firm grass field, after a drop of rain,
Without front drive, road tyres, no lock > About level behind where Scoobs is standing
Without front drive, road tyres, lock on > barely much difference
Without front drive, Machos, lock on > About level behind where Martin is standing
Without front drive, Machos, lock on, and a good run at it > nearly to the top edge, but losing traction and certianly couldn't creep right up to the fence
All 4 wheels, no lock > drive anywhere without a problem in this field

That will save me a few quid then, i am not going to trouble of turning it into a syncro it would be easier and cheaper to buy another syncro, i was considering a lsd or rear locker but if it makes little diference its not worth the hassle and exspense.

My take as well, anyway

2WD solution - Arrive at event low on fuel and with spare hanging off back, dump missus at gate, or send her to back of class

drive up no probem

Or option 2 is wait until all bays are out of sight before getting stuck.

I think what I might need is a lim slip diff as its just to cope with the winters around here and the occasional trip up to the fields to check on the horses. Without some sort of traction aid its a pain in the ass which is why I sold the 2WD and bought the green machine in the first place.
I hope to get this 2WD back for my young fella as he cant get insurance on the DJ Syncro as the engine capacity is too big. Anything over 1.6 and he cant get insurance coz he is only 19

So is that a petrol or a diesel Ormsby?

Lim-slip might be as good or better under some conditions than a locker... if it has a gentle nature? They are about!
Avoid too much weight up front, you know your tyres better than me, might be good to see how far he gets with it

Even better, like bike riding, he should get to learn all about grip limitations, surfaces and how to manage them without taking it for granted. And stick to one vehicle for a while - gotta be good.

Well why dont you just take the plunge Andrew and replace the 2.1 Gas Guzzler for a 1.6 TD? Beef it up with an intercooler and theres not a lot of horsepower difference to be honest. Youre talking 95hp out of one of those with an intercooler. Then you could wind up the injector pump and get another 5hp out of it, bringing it up to 100hp! Theyre a good strong engine so theyll handle it. And youll get much better mpg too. Noisier and smokier though.

Not sure if I agree with your assesment of that particular field Mr Mann, I arrived just after a shower of rain and drove all the way up to the top, past someone getting pulled out, before making my way back down to a levelish bit. Could be down to the skill of the driver, the diesel combined with a nice low first or it could be that I travel light!

LSD would be cool man!

The young lad wants a T25 for his band to get to gigs in but also wants to do things and go places where young people go .... and not get stuck !!
I am still thinking about a trip to Germany again and bring back another synco for him but the LHD is insurance unfriendly at 19.

His band is called 'Hidden from Nowhere' and their first EPCD is available in all good record shops now !!

Yes Victor it was your van that had the traction in just 2WD

Theyre a good strong engine so theyll handle it.

Dont think so Ross, That 1.6 TD isnt very strong in a T25 and very prone to popping head gaskets

Ill have to support the cause and get his CD! Ive actually heard of them before as it happens. I wonder was it from when I was sound engineering for Lebowski.

And as for head gaskets, please dont say that! Im spending enough money on the van as it is!

Then buy a revs counter or install original one and try don't go so far from 3k revs if not... start crying...
