If in doubt, change it. It's cheap insurance. What did garage put in?

Assume garage put Lucas in. I wouldn't run anything but normal oil for running in a new engine. Running in an engine = 'wearing in an engine' ... piston & rings to cylinder, bearings to crank/rods, valves to valve guides, cam to lifters, gears, etc. Most are no problem, but piston & rings to cylinder can be. Piston needs lubricant, compression rings require no lubricant... if oil ring doesn't seal properly and too much oil/lubricant on cylinder/compression rings the cylinder/rings glaze up and don't seat in and engine burns oil for life. Oh, engine can burn a litre every 500 and you won't see it any smoke.. maybe if following you might see puff once in awhile.

As for bobtheoilguy's test; that was on gear oil at room temperature. Gear oil gets pretty hot when running... wonder what difference it would make in the test.

Yeah, garage did it, said he had a lot of success with it before but i'm not convinced on it or any addative. After re reading that test article i'm not that bothered about it either. the addative side was already getin air in before the addative anway and not much of a test using two differnt oils anyway. Think i just panicked!!

Plan now is to get it through the mot and then change the oil and filter and go for a long steady drive!! :ok
