My new engine turned up today, four weeks later than they said it'd be, but the guys who are putting it in for me seem happy with it.

over a month now and it's still at Elite.....

New Malvern had said it's not the Turbo and said to do a refurb but apparently Elite tried to save me money by refurbishing the turbo first then sending a camera down to see if oil was still by-passing - fine but they didn't say this so have offered it for free. Annoying thing is that we left a number of things in the van as we were told it was only a few weeks it would be away that we have needed while we've been back under the canvas, now it's dark in the mornings I've realised i left my bike lights in there as well. Barry at New Malvern has been very apologetic (not so great at calling me back and keeping informed though, but that's garages in my experience) and bought me a decent set of cat lights for free - customer service!!!

Hoping it will be back sometime this week........in the meantime my car has been written off by the insurance company by a "motorhomer" who reversed into it in a car park......it one way it has saved me the bother of selling :D (have been meaning to since we got the van) it but will mean I'll loose £££'s in an low estimate of it's value

Finally got the van back...........over two months since Elite received it.

Their communication is appauling, couldn't give my guy a straight answer and he's been using them for years. One minute the van is on it's way back, when it doesn't turn up they say oh the new heads that were cast were rubbish.............why not just give a straight answer and keep people updated???

So far the van is running well, need to take it back around 500 miles for it to be serviced again in line with the 12K/1 year warranty.

Have to say the service I recieved from Barry at New Malvern has been great. He was so apologetic for the (lack of) service from Elite that he didn't charge me for the other minor work I asked him to do.

When the company say they recondition an engine do they give a defined schedule of work?
I know that not a lot has to be done to something to make it "reconditioned" in legal terms.
Howevr if they are fitting new pistons to +?, regrinding cranks, recutting valve seats, new valves and springs, refacing the cylinder head(s) and so on then it is a proper reconditioning.
I have fitted customer supplied engines with invoices and these have basically been steamcleaned and repainted engines out of scrappers, with new belts leads and other service consumables to make them look good.
Caveat Emptor.

Mine had had new pistons, barrels & rings (I know this because I know who sent the engine to Elite to be rebuilt and I bought it from him rather than Elite  ) and had used heads ... probably because there was nowt wrong with them. Camshafts are cheap as chips and so are bearing sets. I can't comment on the crankshaft though.

Just wondering Rob. Some companies say they do xy and Z, some say they do what needs doing. The latter can be worrying.
