the engin should switch off as normal, my fan wipers etc stay on with the ignition off it the lights are on...

oh thought it was feature so you could leave the van running in the cold as can take the keys out of the ignition and lock it, some of the norwegain boys had the same thing

I can do that on mine, but thought I've just got a knackered ignition barrel

Could anyone find out how that works? That leaving it running in the winter idea is kind of nice for short stops or letting it worm up before leaving. Not much risk around here, but i still don't like to leave the key in and motor running. That would work as a reminder to turn the lights off too (I drain the battery every other month forgetting them on
)!

mine has a webasto heater so wouldn't need that so maybe that was the other option....?

I once had a Japanese Import Landcruiser which had a similar device which allowed you to remote start and idle the car. It also allowed you to idle and remove the key. It was an added extra which a lot of Jap import 4x4's came with. Very handy device to allow the turbo to cool after a few hours of fun
