fitting rear seat belts on a syncro panel van isn't that straightforard due to position of fuel tank, easy to drill trough and fit reinforcements on a 2wd if it's a converted panel van.
take a good read on buying in wiki, doesn't sound like you are really in market for a syncro, get a good 2wd, a westy even if you are spending a lot of time on right side of road and they are good interiors, don't rush, enjoy, good luck

Thanks for all the advice everyone. The camper went to someone for £3500 in the end. The rust put us off, and I don't think we need a syncro now I know a bit more.

Sorry, I should probably not put this on the syncro board, but what I really need help on now is deciding on levels of rust! I've seen the van below - westfalia california, and it looks in pretty good shape.

However, there are a few bits on the side where it's been touched up. Is there a way to tell if this is reasonable, or if it may be covering up quite bad rust? It doesn't look too bad to me but I'd appreciate any advice!

Always hard to tell from photos but if that's the worst of it, then its nothing to worry about. Its pretty rare now to find an original t25 without some seam rust....it seems to be their Achilles heal. To treat you have to strip out the inside panels & waxoil the seams, then make the outside look pretty.
I guess you're looking at alot more than £3500 there though?

Yes, he's asking for £7000. I'm starting to think that it might be a bit expensive with that rust though.

Here's the link to the classified with some more pics. To me the rest of it looks like it's in pretty good condition. It is in about the right price range for us, but I don't want to spend that much and then find that we need to do a lot of work on sorting out rust. We probably want to keep it for a good few years, but I've got no idea how much it costs to ge rust sorted out.
