I suppose in real life it would not make it off tarmac.
I suppose someone will just have to get one so we can all have a go...
I'm sure its pretty capable off-road, but focused more at a rally car's off-road style than a go anywhere of-roader. Can be waded and raised up etc.. did you watch their Project Manager take it for a test drive? Bit long winded but you can skip certain topics.

I think your description of rally style off road is the best description of it. I don't think i saw the project manager video, there is so much stuff on that website.
airhead wrote:Its a shame though cause it has a cracking centre diff. The Haldex they use is a brilliant piece of engineering. If they jacked the suspension up and put on some armour plating on the bottom it might not be half bad off the road. So whats this siekel special T5 now??
I agree the haldex is excellent, it does everything the torsen does but without the transmission shunt which is anoying.
prob is good off road, but not for slow stuff..
the Siekel one has lowered gearing and more ground clearance, but still couldnt plod along...
but that wasnt the point I (or the belgian guy) was making.. if you actually want a camper to go off road, there simply isnt much out there that can do what a syncro T25/T3 can...
Maybe vw should have done a 6 speed box with 1st as an ultra low "G" gear, rather than a normal 1st...
bit academic really.. as I wouldnt spend 25k (SWB 130hp is actually 21250 inc vat OTR) on one to go off road.. more all weather, prob make a good desert raid bus though.. power and advanced drive..

Its a limited market though 4x4 campers and obvisiously not one they wanted to take a risk on, could you imagine how much it would cost with current vw prices, they want 37k for a 2 wheel drive overnight van with the door on the wrong side. I don't think VW is the peoples car anymore its more the too much money peoples car.

True, it was even going that way at the end of T25 production run... with their final high spec variants.
Maybe a smaller market now, so many have so much money in their pockets, or in their plastic cards chip - but is it really theirs?
I agree the t25's prices were getting out of hand but since the phaeton and tourag have come along they now think they are a premium car maker and this reflects in price, which is why skoda's are becoming popular, volkswagens at realistic prices.
