WOW! thanks for the suggestions-will def stay in some of these sites including Three Cliffs if we can get in there-they don't take bookings which is fine with me....as long as we can get a pitch.

Pockets....u will deffo need to book, highley unlikely u will get a pitch otherwise...saying that if ur going out of term time u might be lucky....i wud give them a call first..

Pockets...give 3 cliffs a fone and ask about just turning up without booking...there is an over flow they use but its at the back of the site so the views are fields instead of cliffs and the sea, please don't let my post above put u off ur journey...there is also another day parking bay ..again right on the beach but im buggered if i can remember the name of it..the gates get locked at night...but there is a pub opposite that may allow u to do o/n camping....gimme a few hours for me cell to kick in and the name of it will come to me

Practical Caravan's current magazine this month covers camping in South Wales. Gower Peninsula to be exact. Excellent sandy beaches.

I was planning on going to Pembrokeshire in August and have been looking at campsites. Just out of curiosity I checked availability on one which had facility to do that online and it came up as fully booked already - crazy, how anal are you expected to be about holiday plans?

yeah its a worry especially as I would rather 'drift' from campsite to campsite as and when the mood takes us and having to pre-book everywhere means that we don't have that 'freedom'

I wonder if you'd have a better chance of getting a spot in a site if you don't need hook-up?

I think you're right there, I expect some sites get booked up by caravaniers who return to the same place every year. I don't really need hookup and have only had the luxury once. As you mentioned, some sites stipulate that they don't take bookings but you could probably phone them a little in advance just to check they've got spaces.

ha ha yeah I know, I'd rather buy a porn mag than a caravan mag (still full of t*ts and @rses) still, take comfort in the fact you were buying it for campsite info....you were thinking of buying it for campsite info weren't you and not the latest review of a Sparrowfest 12?
