upon removing the front shock's and springs, the two springs are different lengths, here's a pic, should this be right ? i was wondering if this was due to road camber.

and got the part's back from the powdercoaters, look's pretty smart,

I suspect the longer spring is a 2wd one but I may be wrong.
Got some preloved syncro springs here if required, tho' s-nutz are a bit closer :D

Scrape and vacuum out that crossmember... thoroughly, when dry!
Then spary Dintrol 900 in there, job!

New spill-valves for the tank?

Parts look great finished like that.

Wow, that crossmember is a lot rustier than mine was. Am I the only one who thinks powder coating stuff is a bit overkill. I know it looks lovely but you wont see most of those parts again so why not paint them.

Or is this just me getting old.........

Presumably you've seen this on Syncro rear cross-members ?

Yes when I had the gearbox and tank out I went for a wee rummage. Mine had never been off road with its last German owner so there was very little muck in that area. I used wire flu brushes and an airline to get all the junk I did find out and then filled it up with waxoyl

it's cheaper to get a pile of stuff shot blasted and powdercoated than the time and effort in prepping the surface and painting it and they all seem to do a pile for a fixed ammount so the more you get done the cheaper it works out, only hassle is if threads aren't properly protected or bearing seats then you have to do some work to prep ready to take the fittings

would agree with aidan there not sure of the cost of powdercoating but probably not much more once you factor in buying a selection of wire brushes for the anglegrinder[half way through my second ] and drill paint and the time taken to clean stuff. Although paint may last longer and may be tougher my dads old place of work which made buckets hitches etc for jcbs and the like painted the majority of stuff however may also be down to cost and size

dont know about it being cheap to get the powdercoating done, it's cost me over £600 so far, but the finish is awesome, got all new mounting rubbers for the front diff and the gearbox, just need to get the underside of the van cleaned up and repair anything thats needed, looks like there are a couple of bit's that need a bit of patching, i'll get some more pic's up when i can.

Maybe the van used to be owned by a fat bloke and that's why the spring appears shorter. My mates van has a distinct lean to the drivers side we think because the bloke that owned it before him was quite portly and he owned it for well over a decade.
