Hi there, the news was not good in my cace I ended up with two problems i first had a crack in the head i dont think this had much to do with the smoke but me and the mender man decided that a new engine was the way to go as the engine was tyred anyway. Having taken the engine out we found a load of play in the turdo this is where i think the smoke was coming from on start up. A bill for £2750 later i have a van that does not smoke at all. The bill was made up of parts mainley only £300 was labour which i did not think was too bad. The engine came with all the injection pump cam belt ect ready to bolt in. I guess this is not what you wanted to hear but it is what happend now i have got over the bill i am pleased with the van best of luck Simon.

I have many of the symptoms listed above, but the engine is in good order. I have suspected the turbo for a while, whilst tinkering the other day, I found a lot of play on the turbo shaft.

Next week I'm having a new turbo fitted, I normally do everything myself but for the price its not worth me wrestling with broken studs.

The chap said they normally fit a slightly larger rotor, so he will also carry out an emissions test and tweak the pump if needs be.
I'll keep you posted...
