i can imagine the compressors working lose then a big flyin syncro spring making a right mess of me hair

So can I so if you try again, tie a few loops of polyrope around them first as final safeguard?
Standard springs and a 1" spacer might up top be sufficient...
With your use you need good condition or heavier duty shockers (def. with synro springs) and always make sure your rear tyres are up to pressure, even a couple of psi above, measured cold, as long as you don't go over their max pressures.
With 1 ton in the back of my Doka syncro, I knew imemdiately I had to drive very cautiously; brakes, steering and performance were all seriously impaired.

The colour codes on springs and the colour codes that are listed in ETKA are 2 completely different things.
There are loads of variants not listed.
I think ETKA says something like Yellow, 2 spots, where you will find three, usually 2 yellow followed by white or green.
It's a while since i looked into this, but to be fair, is it really that important?
I don't think that the difference between them is that much, some probably came off a pick up, others off a van.

Fronts are same for transporters and caravelles, only caravelles had different rear springs that had bigger pigtails on (blue marks from memory)
I weighed about 30 sets in recently.

Only vans I have trouble getting the springs in/out of are aftermarket parallel wire springs, or ones that have had spacers fitted to raise them up, all the rest just pop out, if you do struggle just drop the driveshaft and it's a piece of pi$$ then.
