I offer (free) help in translating german van-related texts.

Post it here, if it doesn't fit any of the above.

I'm here again - yesterday I polished BlueBus after cleaning it...driving was more fun... :D

to Hypnovan and to peasant (thanks)
Achsmanschetten ersetzt = replaced this: http://www.vwteile.com/images/products/ ... k.thumbjpg

Auspuff-Rohr = exhaust-pipe (correctly,peasant)

Gelenkschutz CV boot (probably rear outer) = same as "Achsmanschette",but more general, not car-specific...if I would put on an elbow-protector while snowboarding(I wouldn't,but if)..then it would be a "Gelenkschutz" too.

Lenkmanschetten = steering boots (correctly,peasant)

kombisensor combi-sensor (?) = yes; general word for a sensor, which "sensores" several signals...could be lots of.

Vorgluhanlage pre-glow apparatus (probably the whole thing, plugs, relay, sensor) = correctly; the whole thing; as you all know there are some differences in equipment.

to noss vanagon:
"terms and conditions of ADAC" yes,I'm adac-Member myself; what terms exactly are you interested in? Do you want to sign a membership? By the way,Why that when you're in UK?

"die ist sehr Art von Ihnen, danke sehr viel" What?
:) ...maybe "sehr ARTIG von Ihnen" would mean approximately "very well-behaved from you"

to lambrettalee: "Sie unverschämter junger Mann" = "You impudent young man you!" (a woman would have said that 90years ago when you grabbed her boobs in public (nowadays mostly replaced by a kick in your nuts  )

thanks BlueBus. I read 'Manschetten' as being 'Cufflinks'.

I have an enormous service history and it's all in German. I wanted to know what had been replaced, when and why. You've been a great help.

ADAC Mitgleidschaft Plus offers what appears to be an amazing breakdown and recovery package for about half of what it costs in UK. If my van breaks down in UK, ADAC subcontract to AA to deal with it. AA charge more than most for probably less of a service and definitely more than double what ADAC charges.

One issue several members have with ADAC is that someone read somewhere in the small print that ADAC will scrap your van and offer market value for it if the need arises and a few people with policies (such as I) wondered if that was actually the case or a mis-translation.

I can't see how a breakdown company can scrap a vehicle without the insurers ie Adrian Flux, consent. I have my van insured for an 'agreed value' and would be understandably miffed if ADAC offered me a few thousand pounds for it if some crazy Frenchman drove into me and wrote it off.

Hi Hypnovan and Blue Meanies - well, I think I understand what you're worrying about; let's see... you wrote "someone read somewhere in the small print that ADAC will scrap your van and offer market value for it if the need arises"

I) Just "out of my brain" ,without re-viewing the small-written-notes in the adac-contracts (I have the Plus-Membership too, almost 20years now) I remember that they make a slight difference in recovery(towing back home) when you have a Mobile-Home NOT fitting on an usual towing-vehicle, means, if they have to call the "Truck-recovery-unit", they say "sorry guys..." ...but all VW T3 etc are small enough for being treated as "cars", in germany for sure.

But it seems you worry about being recovered from an other country, f.e.france, back to germany. I can read me trough or call if I don't get the answer.

II) But...as I was told (till now) the german adac don't offer it's membership to people having it's residence OUTSIDE Germany...is my information wrong? If yes, there maybe a definition-problem of "transport back to home-country", which would be GERMANY in both cases... :? an additional benefit is, OUTSIDE Germany, you have a very cheap health-insurance via the adac, which covers your doctor-costs almost in every country for the total of the plus-membership-fee...

a) Are you already members with the adac?
b) what sentences of the contracts (maybe on adac.de) we're talking about?

I know this is an old thread, but no-one has replied to your questions so here goes.

Many of us on here in UK have ADAC Plus Membership (so, yes, ADAC does offer membership residing out of Germany) and want to know if we breakdown in continental Europe many miles from home, will our campers be repaired/returned to UK or will ADAC say the market value is less then the expense of repair/recovery and only pay us their market value figure? IE: my van is worth £5-7000 here in UK, but ADAC might appraise it at £3000 market value when I breakdown in Spain. Say repairing or returning it to UK will cost £3500-4000. Pay me their appraised value of £3000 and not return camper to UK. I have been told this has been an issue in a couple of cases with UK vans. I don't read German, so can't tell you where to find or what part of contract has the information we need.

Hope you had a good Xmas and will have a better New Year!

If you can help it would be greatly appreciated.
