some of you might have seen my saga thread about my van breaking down, first time i have had to get recoverd tho, but it turns out it was the fuel pump relay that was at fault so would advise people on getting a second relay and carry it in the van plus mount the relay in a easy to get at location incase you have the same problems as i have had!!! must say tho that the relay hasnt actalluy failed but gets really hot when used, and is the original one that was fitted to the car i got everything out of so must be i recon about 6 years min plus!!

Done mine now and driving it,
just tidying all the little bits now. want to get rev counter sorted, silicon hoses, shorter and larger sump etc.
Richard Jones (RJES) has been a great help, the website contains info and diagrams which have proved very helpful indeed ( coolant circuit etc)
Give him a ring if you have and bother, the geezer is a diamond.

I have a standard gearbox from a 2.0 litre aircooler T25. Dunno the spec of it.Does 70+ in 3rd!
I am running Empi 8 spoke coppies in 15 inch with 205/55/R15 tyres.
One thing I bother with was the starter motors,I have a kenedy engine adapter and the starters would barely turn the engine. This includes a brand new Bosch one. They would turn the engine fine for a few seconds but if the battery was lower than usual it would get very hot and stop.
The best solution was to fit a TORQUE STARTER IMI-104 from Kenedy Engineering in the states.
With this you can run smaller cables and use a battery that fits under the lid behind the front seat( mine was a1600 Diesel with the battery in the engine compartment originaly). This is because it is a geared motor and draws no where near the current of a standard VW one. This type is common on most high compression engines and diesels.
Phew! loads of writing. Hope this helps and doesnt bore!
Cheers. Mark.

Ah, a good strong box with nice ratios... 70 in 3rd about perfect
Think with the RJES conversion you use the Subaru flywheel and starter...
With Kennedy, yes, I've heard that

Of course Syncro Subarus can't go for that 4-speed option 2.0 litre box option...
Latest rebuild costs if there's anything worn at all other than the bearings seals and a few syncro rings is at least £1000. Aidan is now doing 'kits' of rebuild parts that you can buy now to put on the shelf as an insurance against further escalation in costs, as many of the basic parts have gone up 3 x recently!
