IT IS THE £1 bush you need to try first! it's a dead easy job if the old one comes out easy enough, get the bush and soak it in engine oil, supposedly overnight, but as long as it takes to get the starter and bush out will do!

anyone know the part number fro a petrol 1.9 1988 starter motor?
gsf aint got none a local place has laods of transporter ones but only listed as syncro or automatic.... she asked me for part number. I've been out and had a look but can't find a 10 digit part number she is talking about?
any help appreciated,

the bush was completely worn through- only just over half of it left!!
cleaned it out and fitted a new one and it is starting now. Not amazingly fast but it could be with the battery and the fact that its pretty cold.
shane reckoned there looked like a bit of play in THE stater motor itself, but he's not used to T25's so wasn't sure if it supposed to be like that and the bush stops it moving around etc. Any thoughts?
Main thing is we're back on the road. Time will tell whether we need to replace the starter motor itself i suppose.
