mines a 2.1 petrol mv motor, it coughs n splutters thru heavy rain, but never missed a beat in deep water, mines also got the factory fitted snorkel in the r/h rear vent, i guess that helps abit.

The snorkle in the rear isnt a water snorkel but just for dust.It has a water drain in the bottom that will suck water if submerged.A standard syncro air filter housing is also not water tight and will suck water. This all applyes to diesles and petrols.
To wade sucsesfully and safely u need to do a bit of modding.

you can wade a petrol if you give it enough effort!got my V8 under water ! aswell as plug covers i siliconed cap on and blocked hole in dizzy base then ran some very fine breather hose (same bore as vacum advance stuff) from a hole drilled in dizzy cap up to the snorkel side. seal coil in a watertight box (maplins or tupperware!) silicon around wires. kinda ads the element of fun(doubt?) you dont get when wading a diesel!
cheeky pic of talybont (ponsticl holes) had it up to mirrors , snorkel/axle/box breathers were inside as fed up with em getting full o poo! 3.9 converted to hotwire injection and a 4 speed ZF auto , YUM YUM , oh and 12mpg on road , about 6 offroad/low box
