I have a Halfords Fortress steering lock which is quick and easy to put on. I also installed a motion sensor in the main body of the van. They are reasonably priced, remotely activated, and produce an eardrum splitting siren if anyone gets in!

I bought the Halfwits Fortress device that Goblin mentioned. Young lad at the Middlebrook branch in Horwich, Bolton tried several disc types but they were all too small. The Fortress bar type thingy cost £39.99 last year & as previously stated is Thatcham grade 3 approved. It is a bit of a sloppy fit though.

When I had my air cooled van Adrian Flux insisted that I used ''some sort of immobilising device on the steering wheel''. When I notified them of the change of vehicle to my water cooled van I checked with them about obligatory security devices & they said that there was no such clause in the policy.

My top tip is to hide an old mobile phone with a pay as u go sim in the van and hook it to the battery via a 12V charger. (Poundland) If the van goes for a walk you can track the mobile using a web base service.

The one I use is http://www.followus.co.uk/ and it works a treat.

Not going in to the fine details but I have spent some time on this and have designed a circuit that sends a text to my mobile when my van is unhappy. Have only tested it with a Nokia but it cost less than £3 of maplin bits and I think well worth it.

I would like to disable the van via text but am un-sure what is the best (low current if possible) place to cut in to the van electrics. I have a CU with std fuel pump and leccy ign.
