Yes, but the electrical element is b*ggered so it only works on gas at present. So I just want to check that if I switch the fridge to run on gas its still ok to hook up to the mains

just make sure that the fridge 240 side of it is switched off ,then you'll do no more damage to owt

i wasn't told about any switches so i presume that it does.

so in light of this...does anyone know where i could take it to get the fridge/cooker going?

Not quite sure if they even work or how they work with the gas, how to wire it all up etc, and the guy i got it from said to get the gas checked over first before i use it?

I had previously thought it was a new unit you had fitted but I think I was wrong. Is this an old fridge fitted to the van (its new to you isn't it?) when you bought it or a new to you fridge you have bought to put in the van?

A 3 way fridge has three connections - a pair of wires for the 12v side, a 3 core cable for the mains side and a big (8mm ish diameter) pipe for the gas. You may also have a connection for ignitor depending how fancy your fridge is.

If these fridges aren't used regularly the coolant does tend to settle. It is common for them to be revived by being taken out and given a roll over - honest!

If it isn't easy to get the fridge out I would park somewhere level and try it on mains. After about 15 minutes the pipes round the back should be getting hot and the insides getting cold. If the pipes are hot but the inside hasn't changed you will need to tumble it as a first resort. If the pipes on the back aren't getting hot then that heating element isn't working and yo will need repairs.
